Lack of self-confidence. My Grade 1 son always said, "Mom, maybe I'm wrong in my answer. Mom, maybe my older brother will laugh at me. Mom, maybe you'll scold me when I make a mistake. Mom, maybe I did something bad." My son is like that every time we have a class. I tried something and it worked. They don't differ in grade level so what I did was they just got together every time we had a discussion. Whenever I have a question or I ask them to do something, they all have to participate. They are more active, but when we are one on one, my Grade 1 class often sleeps.
