Last week we visited a seal sanctuary. They take care of sick or wounded seals. When they are cured they are released in the wild again. My daughters really lived the seals. Some were still babies that lost their mother's. They are taken care of until they can hunt for fish themselves.

Are they "friendly" and curious like in the picture or do they rather do their thing for themselves?
They are in a bassin, so you can't get really close. And some of them are even in quarantine.
The one in the picture seems disturbed but curious. It's good that there are facilities like this. And certainly great for the children, better than a zoo with the background knowledge.
You're right. I used to go to zoos when the kids were smaller, but I somehow don't feel that good about visiting animals that are kept in captivity.
They are good for conservation if they are well desgined and also good for the education of the children, but such a sanctuary is much more educational, I think.
Great initiative and nice to see places nurturing hurt animals.
I hope tje seal was recover and get back the strenght and place again where they belong to live
