The race between the Tortoise and Hare.
The hare was the fastest animal in the animal kingdom, no other animal could outrun it or so he thought. This ability got into his head, he bragged all day and all night.
"Who can compete with me? If you know you can, come forward and if you win, I'll give you all my properties, everything I own, my barns, my lands, my houses even my servants. If I defeat you, you will serve me all your life," he bragged.
No animal was brave enough to challenge it. It would be futile, no one came forward.
"Cowards! The bunch of you!" The Hare laughed mockingly.
"I accept your challenge!" A sharp voice came from among the crowd of animals gathered. It was the tortoise. The hare laughed even more, this time, other animals joined in.
"Don't be stupid!" The hare said, "Do I look to you like Mr. Snail? I expect the likes of Mr. Fox and Mr. Dog to challenge me not you slow slime," the hare mocked.
Other animals tried to discourage the tortoise but he would not be dissuaded. Tortoise's wives and children began to cry and plead to reconsider his unwise decision. He ignored them.
The day of the race came, Tortoise's family went along with him to the starting line crying and pleading, it was not too late to change his decision but Tortoise remained unmoved.
Mr. Pig fired the gun and the hare took off immediately, in a few seconds, he was out of sight while the Tortoise crawled slowly, the wails of his loved ones behind him.
The hare ran and when it got to a tree, it stopped to rest, "I'll win the race anyway," he said gulping some water from his water bottle as he laid at the base of the tree and slept off.
He had a nice dream, the Tortoise was in his house serving him some hot porridge on a golden stool.
The tortoise soon got to where the Hare laid down, shook his head, smiled and continued his crawling.
After a long time, the hare woke up with a start, he started running to the finish line, but it was too late. The Tortoise had crossed the finish line and he was being awarded. Mr Hare lost all his properties to the Tortoise.
Slow and steady wins the race
My favourite chocolate cake recipe
I'm a chocolate addict and I'm happy that's the colour of my skin so I try to involve chocolate in almost everything I do.
It will be a pleasure to share this wonderful chocolate cake recipe with y'all.
For starters, let's get our ingredients which are coffee, vegetable oil, semi-sweet chocolate chips, eggs, cream, butter, salt, sugar, flour, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla extract, cocoa powder and buttermilk. I use coffee for the flavour, it brings out the chocolate flavour.
Now that you've gotten your ingredients, it's time to proceed to the next stage.
Grease your cake pan with butter, sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl of stand mixer and whisk. Add the wet ingredients into a large bowl and whisk together.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients then mix on level 2 for about 2-3 minutes. Pour batter into the greased pan and bake in a oven at a temperature of 350F until a toothpick inserted into it comes out clean. Allow to cool before transferring to a cake board.
Get a small bowl, mix the semi-sweet chocolate chips and cream, heat in a microwave at half power for some seconds. Whip the butter for about 5-7 minutes, add sugar, beat slowly, add ¼ cup of cocoa powder, add the cream, add the vanilla extract, little coffee powder, salt and beat till your consistency is even and fluffy.
Pour this mix over your cake and let it spread, if you have different layers of cake, you can pipe this over each layer.
Bon appetit!
Hey guys, so it has been one hell of a week for me. Malaria is a meanie, it has been dealing with me for the past few days. I am back now, I've missed this site.
The Umbrella Academy
Hey guys, recently I've been so bored and I've been feeling this cloud of uselessness hanging over me so my little brother offered to help. He told me to start watching a series, since I'm more of the horror and animation lover, I politely declined. This kid went ahead to download the full season 1 of umbrella academy. I couldn't just let his efforts go to waste so I decided to watch.
It has turned out to be one of the most interesting acts I've watched on television.
The umbrella academy is 7 unusual kids adopted by a billionaire industrialist, unusual in the sense that they were born alongside 36 others by unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before.
The billionaire industrialist creates The Umbrella academy to prepare these kids to save the world from an impending apocalypse. In their teenage years, their team splits up and each goes to find their own path.
Six of them are however brought back together after the demise of their billionaire father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves.
Together they try to fight the apocalypse before it comes.
The action, comedy and suspense are the things I love the most about this series.
Have you tried out fried rice?
If you are a rice lover, then you should totally try this out. Fried rice is easy and relatively cheap to prepare.
Ingredients:
Rice, green peas, carrots, green peppers, spring onions, sweet corn(optional), turmeric, chopped liver(optional), vegetable oil, meat, salt, bouillon cubes.
Recipe:
Parboil the rice and keep it in a sieve, dice your vegetables(green peas, carrots, spring onions, green peppers, red peppers). Boil your meat with turmeric, bouillon cubes, salt and onions, use lots of water to boil the meat keeping in mind that the water will be used to boil the rice. After boiling the meat, pour the rice from the sieve into the meat water. Make sure the rice is not overcooked or too soft.
Heat vegetable oil in a sauce pan, when the oil is ready for frying, carefully pour in the chopped liver and vegetables and stir for about a minute.
Then pour the vegetables into the pot of rice and mix properly with a ladle, if the quantity of rice cooked is small, then you can transfer the rice into the saucepan and fry along with the vegetables.
Enjoy your very rich in carbohydrate and vitamins meal.
It can be served at special occasions like receptions, Thanksgiving dinners or just eaten at lunchtime.
Where is Amber?
Amber had been married for about 3 years with a child, she got married to her high school sweetheart Paul. The first year of her marriage was really blissful, endless outings and trips within and outside the state. Things suddenly turned sour when when Paul lost his job as a supervisor in the construction company he had worked in since his graduation from the university. Amber's job in the bank was now used to feed and clothe the family.
Finding himself with no job to do and too much time on his hands, Paul took solace in alcohol. The bar down the road was his comfort zone. He would go there as early as 7am when Amber took Ali their little son to school before going to work and come back when Ali was already fast asleep at night.
Amber always stayed awake for him. Pretty soon the sight of Amber and Ali began to disgust him, he would take out his anger on them, he would beat Amber into a pulp and when Ali tried to separate them, he would beat up the child as well. Amber took Ali to her sister, she couldn't bear to see her son go through all the trauma of watching her being abused by her husband.
Her sister, Allison begged her to leave the house when Paul beat her and locked her outside the house. She refused hoping things would go back to the way they were during the first year of their marriage, she intensified her efforts in helping Paul look for a job.
Things did not get better as Paul grew from bad to worse, Allison got him arrested on more than two occasions but it didn't solve anything.
Last month, Allison tried calling her sister to inform her that her son had developed a terrible cold, she couldn't reach her. She called her office and they told her that she had been absent from work for about a week, she tried Paul's number, it was switched off. She took a bus to their house and met the whole flat empty, no furniture, nothing at all.
She took the case to the station and she was made to write a statement. It's been weeks and the police haven't been able to find any meaningful information on the whereabouts of either Paul or Amber.
Say no to domestic violence!
Hello everyone, It is my second day here.
Hi everyone. My name is Fola, I just joined yesterday. A close friend of mine told me about read.cash yesterday (Thanks Super D).
I am 19, I love reading a lot, I was told by my parents that I started reading when I was four, a bit of an exaggeration maybe. I read a lot of novels, my best writer is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her works are beautiful. Sometimes I wish I could channel the energy I use in reading novels into my school work which is in no way related to literature.
I am a writer, I write articles on Feminism . I believe in equality as much as I believe in myself. Most of my stories centre on Feminism, I write about other things but I write mostly for women's rights.
I love singing, I love afro music but recently I joined a church choir. I play the violin, I'm not a wizard at it though but I try.
I'm not much of a dancer but I love dancing anyways. My roommates helped me brush up my dancing skills last year, so I think I am less terrible at it now.
Apart from Facebook and WhatsApp, I have not been able to share my write-ups on any other platform, I am too shy to. I get scared when I write and I have to share knowing other humans will read it.
I have been reading a lot of posts on this platform and I love it here already.
