Gregory University Uturu: Moving from Strength to Strength GREGORY UNIVERSITY UTURU: MOVING FROM STRENGHT TO STRENGTH Gregory University Uturu(GUU) is a foremost private university located at Amokwe, Uturu, Abia State. It is owned by Prof Gregory Iyke Ibe, PhD, OFR (Enyi Abia) who doubles as the Chancellor. Saliu, Director, Academic Planning, National Universities Commission, NUC, which reads in part: “The philosophy behind the establishment of Pharm D programme in Nigeria universities is to provide students with a broad knowledge to further equip them with the ability to apply pharmaceutical knowledge in health care delivery system; acquire professional skills to identify and resolve drug related problems and to impact to the students a comprehensive knowledge of Pathophysiology, Therapeutic, Pharmacokinetic and Toxicology among several other aims and objectives”. Only 11 out of the 192 Federal, State and Private Universities got the approval to run a six year course and award Pharm D in Nigeria. Gregory University Uturu, is the only private university in Nigeria that was among the already established universities that was given the approval. This, feat positions Gregory University as an emerging power-house in field of health, with Medicine and Surgery already accredited in addition to Nursing Science that is also accredited. To buttress the fact that the university is an all-rounder, it bidded, won the right, and successfully hosted the Nigeria Universities Theater Art Festival(NUTAF) in 2021, making it the first private University to host the 40 year old event. They were also the first private university to host and win the NUTASA (Nigerian Universities Theatre Art Students Association) since it’s existence 34 years ago, and the first to produce a Female National President of the association. In the Engineering angle, Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has confirmed full accreditation of Computer, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering for Gregory University Uturu. Before now accredition for Mechanical,Civil,Electrical and Electronics had been secured. Abia Skills Gap: Prof Ibe Offers Scholarships to Youths ABIA SKILLS GAP: PROF IBE OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP TO YOUTHS The Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu Prof Gregory Ibe has decried the unfortunate dearth of trained professionals in certain cardinal career sectors in Abia state. The renowned professor of entrepreneurial science who also functions as director of research and development of Abia Elders Council, stated that the unfavorable situation poses great danger to the growth and wholesome development of the state. Speaking to newsmen on the hills of the 30th anniversary of the creation of Abia state, Prof Gregory Ibe asserted that the gaps created by the absence of these professionals in the Abia workforce has the potential of impinging speedy advancement while halting attainment of future societal goals. According to him, “In execution of my responsibilities as director of research and development of Abia Elders Council, I recently observed the apparent lack of a good stock of professionally trained Abians in such critical careers as Petroleum Engineering, Physiotherapy, Radiology, Public Health Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physical and Health Science, Insurance, Theatre Arts, Mass Communication and Agricultural Science”. This discovery, according to Prof Ibe, has informed his decision to use this year’s award of his annual scholarship scheme to commence the process of correcting the observed career deficit. In his words, “In order to commence the process of reversing the possible negative impacts of the present unfortunate situation of existing yawning gaps in the data bank of certain needed trained professionals on our labor demography in the future, I have directed our Scholarship Board to offer desiring Abia youths from the 17 Local Government Councils tuition free education in Gregory University Uturu during the forthcoming 2021/2022 academic session to study these disciplines”. He therefore enjoined Abia youths to avail themselves the opportunity of acquiring such skill sets that will not only distinguish them but can also make them relevant to societal needs. Gods Expectation from Today Choristers It is true that the veil of the temple tore into pieces the moment Christ gave up the ghost. It is true that everybody now have access to God and may be allowed to climb the altar but His expectations or requirements from His ministers and intending ones remains the same. These expectations will be discussed one after the other. He expects you to be born again:- The first step you must take to become a member of God’s family is that of being born again. If you are in the choir and you are not yet born again maybe you are the choir master even, please kindly drop your office and go back to do the first work which is repentance. If not, you are wasting your time and polluting the altar of God and God will not leave you unpunished if you do not change. For you to be born again, you must first repent from your sins and accept Christ as your Lord and personal saviour. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2Pet. 3:9. God has given us the promise of forgiving us our sins whenever we come back to Him repentantly in humility. To repent means “to turn away”. So you have to turn away from your sin and then plead for forgiveness. He is faithful and just to forgive you your sins. Another thing you must do after repenting from your sin is to sanctify yourself. In the Old Testament, sanctification was done through sacrifice to God with the use of Animal’s blood. But today, the blood of Jesus is the replacement of the animal’s blood. All you need to do is to pray that God should cleanse you through the blood that was shed by His only begotten son on the cross of Calvary, He will by same blood blot out your sins and they will be remembered no more. This is possible when you believe that Christ came and shed His blood for humanity. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John. 1 : 9. When we are cleansed from all unrighteousness, we become sanctified. The next step to take is that of separating yourself from the world. Have a total (not partial) separation from worldly friends and worldly things, I won’t start mentioning them; you know all. Then, make new friends in Christ so as to help you grow. Hear His word: Wherefore, come out from among them and be ye separate. Saith the lord, and touch not the unclean things and I will receive you. 18 And I will be a father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 2Cor.6:17-18. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the father is not in him. 1John.1:15. This call is very much loud and clear. Come out from among the people of the world and be separate, love not the things of the world as you used to, then He will become your father. If you must attract God’s love upon your life, then, you must not love the things of the world. All you have to do is constantly study the word of God which is the Bible and then pray so you can grow spiritually at this level. Apart from growing, one of the reasons why you must pray is for you not to fall into temptation in this tempting world of sin. Christ said: Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation. Matt.26:41a. I’ve seen faithful and vibrant brothers in the choir who are been brought down to level zero by some “recruited demonic sisters” as my friend will put it because they did not watch and as well could not pray. It is vice versa, before the sisters will crucify me. I have also seen sisters who are been deceived into relationships by brothers who claim to be doing well in faith. They are even more in the Choir. They come with the name of either the Holy Spirit ministered to me that you are going to be my wife or I see you becoming the mother of my unborn children - LIES FROM THE PIT OF HELL. We must be very much careful and that is why we must have to constantly pray and study the bible to fill our hearts with God’s word. He express Holiness And uprightness from you: In this our era, choristers have thrown caution to the wind. But the truth remains that God requires holiness and Uprightness from the choristers just the way He demands same from the pastors. God’s standard for holiness remains as has been for ages irrespective of modernization, civilization, doctrines or dogmas, just as the Altar is a holy place where God dwells; so also the choristers who have their stand on the Altar must make and keep themselves pure. I asked a question in chapter one (1) about the last time we experienced God’s powerful move in our church services, one of the reasons why God has refused to show up or shows up partially is because the choristers are living immoral lives. They have polluted the Altar, there is no more sanctify in the Altar of God. Imagine a praise or worship leader coming from a boyfriend’s house to lead the congregation on Sunday morning after committing all the havoc in the night, what will she sing and to whom will she sing for? There are some church choirs where the choir director sleeps with every new sister that comes to join the choir before she can be allowed to join the choir. The choristers are committing havocs in so many churches unknowing to the church leaders. Sometimes, the pastor will be aware but will refuse to react because of the fear of losing members. No wonder the bible said that judgment will start from the church. Such pastor, God will hold responsible. There was a story about one notable campus fellowship belonging to one of the leading and highly respected churches in Nigeria. This fellowship had a revival programmed and invited a man of God to minister. When it was time for the pastor to minister, he climbed the Altar and immediately, God speak to him about five choristers who fornicated the night to the day the programmed was held. They were not afraid to boldly climb the Altar (choir stand) to sing. This man of God told them to humbly come out so he can pray for them but they refused. After much pleading, for it not to look like the pastor lied, he angrily busted into prayer that God should expose them, he prayed to an extent, and then started singing worship songs. Not up to ten minutes the power of God began to fetch them out, and the whole congregation began to shout as they were amazed. What a shameful experience that day? You may be like one of these five, but please kindly submit and surrender totally to God now that you are reading this book, to avoid this kind of disgrace. These five persons never expected what they experienced that day. Do not be adamant over this so you will not be embarrassed the day you least expect it. Not all pastors are meek to condone. God requires us to be holy in Thought: What we do or say is always conceived in the heart first. An idle mind they say is the devil’s workshop. But the mind filled with the word of God is His abode (God’s dwelling place). Such mind thinks positively and Godly. Pause a minute and sink this bible verse deep into your mind. Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.2Cor 10:5. Whatever thought that is not in line with the word of God; such thought is unholy and must be cast down. Guard your thoughts to conform to God’s word and His will. In words: Often times, we claim to be upright, we claim to be born again but yet our mouths are not. We talk like the unbelievers, do all the manners of jesting. We lie, insult, curse and do all the evils with our mouth. Here goes His word: For in many ways we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body. James 3:2. It is very much essential to learn how to bridle or tame your tongue ‘o chorister”. If you can be holy in words, you can as well in action. I therefore beseech you that is reading this book by the mercies of God that you sanctify your tongue and lip for only good conversations so as to become perfect in the sight of God and able to put the whole of your body under control. Action: Action they say speaks louder than voice. The real you is known through your behavioural pattern. People may believe what you say with your mouth but will understand you better through your actions, the way you live, do things and approach people. Are your actions reflecting God? Are you a Christian, are you a chorister? If yes, how is your character like? We claim to be Christians, not just Christians but believers pretending to be pleasing Christ with our lifestyle but secretly indulging in all sorts of evil. Men may not be seeing you but God is seeing you. Had the unbelievers ever called you hypocrites, have they ever told you that they will get to heaven before you? Then you must watch your life if yes. You womanize like them, drink with them in saloons, play harlotry, do all the immoral jestings together and expect that they will not judge your faith. Go to night clubs, beaches, bear parlors on festive periods like Christmas, New Year and Independence celebrations and see what Christians does there. Go to birthday parties, enter higher institution campuses and see for yourself. What pains me most is that majority of these ones are choristers. If you are one of them, won’t you change? You that is reading this book, does your life bring glory to God or it is bringing shame? Be ye clean that bears the vessels of the Lord. God is watching you; He will never allow you to go scot-free if you don’t change now. Carefully read: Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.26 thou blind Pharisees, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Matt 23:25-26. You that handle the microphone in the church to sing as though you are one of the angels sent from heaven and still indulge in sin, for how long are you going to continue like that? Remember, there is a woe to the hypocrites, a curse. You can fool men many times but cannot fool God. He sees your heart, and every movement that you make. He knows you more than you know yourself. He Expects us to be Decent: Today’s Christians have lost consciousness and morality all because of fashion. The creed to look modernized or civilized has ensnared Christians not small. In fact; fashion is daily eating us up and we are not noticing it. what pains me most is that indecency has gone beyond control in our churches, if is found only in the congregation, then it would have been better, so to say for they would have been gradually changing because of the ministers on the altar. When I talk about ministers, I mean pastors and choristers majorly; they who would have joined hands in the fight to bring morality and sanity back to the church have joined the fascinating trend. Choristers, change for crying out loud, God is not happy with the way we are going. To our sisters, enough of looking like masquerades, you have no one to scare in the church, and you are only scaring away those good and faithful brothers that would have sought for your hands in marriage. Stop dressing to entice the choir master and other brothers in choir. You do not feel comfortable sitting on the front row in the choir stand because of your dressing and you call it fashion. Must you dress to expose the parts of your body that are meant to be covered? Don’t be a satanic agent on assignment in the church. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 1Cor.12:22. Apostle Paul is saying here that we now accord more respect to the parts of the body that do not need much respect and the part that deserves it, we do not respect. I have seen so many sisters in the choir who will dress corporate, putting on a long sleeved shirt. They will properly button the hand, of the shirt but will reserve the top button of the shirt so as to allow half of their breasts to be showing. Some will even sew a very long gown that will cover them well and then put a round hole on the chest for their breasts to be showing half way. In the name of fashion, they accord despect to their hands and legs than the breast that needs it more. The bother on the other hand are sagging their trousers and frying their hair amongst others people are almost going naked on the streets and we Christians are copying them. What a shame? These things do not portray the image of god that we are. Stop deceiving yourself and start living by the truth in the word of God that you have read and heard. God is not happy with the way we are going, He wants us to change. He doesn’t want us to look like the unbeliever anymore. He wants a distinction between us and the unbeliever; He wants us to be decent in our dressing. We claim to know God better than us. Apostle Paul is admonishing us. Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Cor. 14:40 Your dressing pattern is not excluded in this matter. You must have to dress decently and in order for you to please God. Be among they that will make heaven to rejoice and not cry. He expect us to get inspiration from Him: Are you a chorister, a composer, an artist ort intending Artist?. Then this is for you. You must depend solely on God for inspiration. Let Him breathe life into you and upon your songs so they can become meaningful and impactful. In chapter 1, I talked about the devil who is continually tuning or trying to turn the creatures against their creator, the musicians are his major target, therefore, give him no room. Satan is trying to inspire and has been inspiring people. Most of the worldly musicians of today, started from the church choir unitl the devil then blew the spirit of pride, immorality and guest for fame into their hearts and mind and they fell. To you reading this book, tread with caution, do not be loose to the devil. Get yourself equipped for every good work, constantly study Gods word, have personal quiet time, seek Gods face in prayers persistently, make sure the devil do not find any loop hole in your life at any given point in time. God is ready to use you, he is ready to inspire you, all he need from you is surrenderedness. If you don’t completely submit to him, the devil may enter into you and inspire you. He will make sure you don’t understand that you have missed it and before you will realize it at all you will, you have already sunk deeply in his ocean; he then takes full control of your life. Flee worldly songs: Apart from yielding to God, praying and studying God word, if you must be inspired of Him (God) at all time, the you must flee worldly songs. You become influenced by the devil the moment you start singing his inspired songs. Any music that is played in the beer parlor, night clubs and cultural/ traditi onal are not God oriented and must be avoided by the person who calls him or herself a chorister. All your songs must be chritiant ones, the ones you compose, sing with your mouth, play from your phone and music sets in your home. Sing to place Him and not humans or the deal god imitated music and it must be from you to him alone. Lean to sing songs that will glorify him, not songs that will begin it question his existence, not songs of so now continually but songs of parses. There was a brother who repented but never played with secular music or worldly songs rather he local them so much. One faithful day, he was walking with a friend along ring road, Bennie city, Edo state who he saw demons too numerous to count dancing to the ture of the music played by one igbo business man in his shop. For some minutes, he paused and was watching these demons dancing until his friend noticed that he was not following him and they went back to tap him. It was when the friend tapped him that the thing went off. God opened his eyes to see the danger of playing worldly music and he came up with the conclusion “if these demons coved be dancing to the ture of this music, it then means that whenever I play them in my house , I invite legious of demons to my mom”. From that day he stopped playing worldly songs and burnt all the cassettes he was having. I was not left out this, I was so much addicted to the singing and playing of worldly music, ever when I was born and brought up in a christen home. I will sing and play them whenever I am not with my parents for we do not play them at home and y father hate them not small. One of my very good friends will be preaching to me to stop but would not listen to him. It was not my fault anyway, I was under influence. This thing happen fenced when I was not yet a chorister, I never know god had a plan for me, his grace truly has brought me this far . one day, after our fasting and praying programmed in the church, I was walking along our street when I heard a loud voice saying “what are those songs doing in your phone”? I pretended not to have heard but god have already said in the scripture “once have I spoken, twice have you heard”. I become restless, the question kept on ringing in my ears and mind my heart was beating uncontrollably. I had to format my memory card as the first step, then I had peace . but I never played with lucky dubls songs for I loved them not small, it was then god used my dad to perfect his word. I mistakingly used one of lucky dubes songs as my ringing tone and one day, the phone rang in the presence of my dad, he was very angry with me, so I ran outside to receive the call and after the call, I deleted the songs completely, for if he had see them in my phone, he would have seized the phone. From that day, I took a decision not to have anything to do with worldly songs again, little by little, I started hating them and cleaning them off my head. Today I am a chorister, he has presented me for his good work. Grace differes, please do not wait until he opens your eyes like the man in edo state or speak to your ears like he did to me before you will change. He is speaking to you through this book to stop. His grace is sufficient to help you overcome. Start by taking them off your phone and homes, begin to find reasons to hate them and they will gradually go off your memory. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and songs from the spirit. Sing and make music from your heat to the lord Eph .5:19. According to that verse of the scripture, our music are to be direte to god alone from our heart. Songs from the spirit are god’s inspired song, it is only this kind that brings edification to the body of Christ and glorified god also. 5. He expects as to live for him Alone: If you must be a god choose chorister, if you must be used of him to being down his glory via praise and worship, the all your life must be catered on him alone. You must serve him with your spirit, soul and body. He must not be second in your life, he must be your priorty, your first. Everything about you must condescend to his will. You must showcase him in all you do, wherever you go to and before as many you come in contact with. You must make him feel and know that he is your everything and the lord your life. Your life pattern must conform to his original intent for humanity. Let this songs become your anthem : Lord I give you my heart, I give you my soul, I live for you alone every step that I take every moment I am awake, lord, have your way in me. Our god is a jealous god. And he becomes more jealous when you begin to give another person or deity what he invented primarily for himself he invented you, he invented music and all it’s instruments, you ought to praise him with music become it is a ability give to you by him. Hear Christ. No man can serve two master, for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other, you can not serve god and mammon .mtt.6:24. You can’t be here and be there same time, you can’t be a true child of god and still love the things of the world, you can’t sing to please god and still sing to please the deal the same time. you can’t have a strong fellowship with God and still mingle with the unbelievers to the detriment of the faith you claim to hold. God is calling you to serve him, live for him and you will enjoy him. SUMUP OF GOD’S EXPECTATION FROM TODAY CHORISTER if you must attract god’s love upon your life them you must not love the things of world. God requires holiness remains and uprightness from the choristers just the way he demands same from the pastors. God’s standard for holiness remain the same irrespective of modernization, cicilization, doctrines, or dogmas. God is ready to use you, he is ready to inspire you, all he needs from you is syrnderedness You become influenced by the deal the moment you start singing his inspired songs. God initiated music and it must be from you to him alone. If you must be a god choose chorister, if you must be used of him to bring down his glory, via praise and worship. Th all your life must be centered on him alone. You rlife pattern must conform to his original intent for humanity.

The Necessity of singing for God Can you just imaging in your hearts, the reasons why God desires that you sing for Him? Does singing for God and to Him have any effect on the life of the chorister? Below are some of the reasons why you must continually sing to God and for Him. Singing is a Command: When you sing to God and for Him, you are obeying Him. It is not an option; it is a command in the Holy Scriptures. So you become an obedient child when you sing. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God Col. 3:16. When you Sing, you Build up Others: You strengthen the faith of the listeners when you sing; you give them strength to carry on. Sometimes, songs carry a powerful message that is capable of healing the feeble-minded When you Sing, you Make a War: Do you know that there are warfare songs? You may have been undermining the power of warfare praises, but remember what happened to the walls of Jericho. You may be so weak and tired to pray, but singing can help you out. It can penetrate the same level that prayer does. Songs prepared for war more than prayers. Singing Strengthens us Spiritually in Times of Trial: Remember Paul and Silas who were imprisoned unjustly for the sake of the Gospel. All they could do that night was to sing, and God manifested Himself. Songs help us to bind our confidence in God. When We Sing, We Glorify God: Singing moves Him. It helps in bringing down His kingdom to us. It makes God feel fulfilled perfecting the purpose of making man. We become His right-hand man when we sing for Him. Singing makes His presence worthwhile in our lives. The Choir is a Reflection of Heaven: Prophet Isaiah gave a glimpse into God’s throne room with Angels singing together in Isa.6:3. John the divine painted a similar picture in the book of revelation. When the congregation listens to the choir as they sing in hathe harmony of voice and spirit, they are momentarily transported to the throne room of heaven. The congregation must not discount the richness the choir brings to the church’s worship experience. The pastors and deacons with other leaderships in the church only things that take place here on earth - ordinances established on earth. They do what Angels do not do. But the ministry of the choir is something earthly and heavenly at the same time. The Angels may be a little bit jealous because you who are flesh and blood have been called upon to serve in the same ministry that they have been created for. Singing makes you go to places you do not dream of going to. It makes you outstanding. It makes you renowned. But then you must be sensitive when you grow to this level for this is when the devil can come up with the spirit of pride to demean and destroy you.

Grace of all Thank God for Jesus who has taken away every hindrance as to the ministry of the choir being for the Levite’s family alone; He tore the veil and now, we all have access to doing service for God in His vineyard. What a privilege God has given to us to climb His Altar and sing for Him. The ministry of singing and instrumentation in the church is no more by appointment alone but it is free to as many that have received Him who are willing to work for Him. These ones, He gives power to become His children and He prepares them for the work. The bible puts it this way. But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God. Even to them that believe on His name. John. 1:12. If you have truly received Him, if you have surrendered yourself in totality unto Him, then you have the power to sing for Him, I mean to become a chorister. And if you are already a member of the choir and you have truly surrendered to Him then, you are truly a chorister indeed. But always remember that the grace of God which He has lavished on us is not to be wasted. That we all have access to His Altar doesn’t mean that sanctity or purity is a thing of the past. Purity remains a moral standard for all true children of God. Apostle Paul is asking us a question: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound. 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin live any linger there in? Rom. 6:1-2. Ask yourself this question, am I going to continue in sin that grace may abound? The Old Testament Instrument About the Choir As seen in chapter 1, the priest or Levite’s family was honored by God and chosen to serve in His vineyard in the areas of ministration. The ministry of singing and playing of the instruments were not left out of this. They were indeed blessed with the gifts of composing songs, playing Instruments and having the good voice to sing. Just as we all know that the place of the choir is the Altar, the Altar is where God also dwells in the tabernacle of worship. The Ark of the Covenant which is the symbol of God’s presence is also kept on the Altar. It is a sanctified place and those that must climbed there for anything whatsoever, must first sanctify themselves hence, the reservation of music department for the Levites for they were seen to be better of in holiness and uprightness. In 1Chronicles.15:12-13, David commanded the people that carried the Ark of the Covenant to first sanctify themselves. It is only when we are sanctified that we are supposed to have access to where His presence abides – the Altar. 3.Who shall ascend into the hill of the lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy place? 4. He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of salvation. Psalm 24:3-5. The hill of the lord is His abode, His environment, His tabernacle - the church. If they that should step their feet into His church be purified before they can enter, what about the choristers who don’t just enters but have access to the altar?. The Old Testament instruction restricted every other category of persons except the Levites and they always sanctified themselves for the task. Sanctity is still required as one of the things to be considered before joining the choir.

Who Then is a Chorister? We can’t just be thinking that pastors are the only ministers of God. Choristers are also ministers. As pastors are ordained by God for His service, the same way a chorister is ordained from the day he or she chooses to be a choir member. Choristers are sanctified ministers of God who serve the purpose of leading the congregation to the realm where they can give God heartfelt praise and worship. Choristers functions in the house of God to preach His word through music. They make use of their divine endowment for God - the use of their sweet and melodious voices to sing for God. **The Ministry of the Chorister:** Only a few ministries of the church require devotion and dedication like that of singing. The person that leads the singing and the ones that back up are all precious gifts to the local church. Choristers are as important to the church as the church services themselves. I am not saying this to make you proud, but to put a little fear and awe in you, for you to know your responsibilities. Never take church singing to be a hobby; it is not what you have to do for personal fulfillment. It is a duty to all those whom God has given musical talents. It is a sin for you not to sing when God has given you the gift of singing. Angels were created to serve and to sing as seen in the introduction and you as a chorister have been given the good voice for the same purpose. Choristers should note that they are to listen to themselves while singing to have a good blend. The tenor singers for example should listen to themselves first, and then, listen to the other parts (soprano and Alto). The reason for this is to make their ministrations blend. The ministry of the choristers is not something that one should jeopardize or even joke with. It is an important ministry that must be treated with carefulness and respect. It is a ministry that has its continuance in heaven. Are you truly a chorister? If yes, then, get ready to join the host of Angelic choir to sing for God when you cross to the yonder side. You must guard against whatever will mar you this great privilege and then, try to live by all that is written in the subsequent chapter. A chorister lives by what is written in chapter 3 of this book.

Introduction Of my Book about choristers So many people are in church choir bearing the name “chorister” without proper knowledge of the true meaning and purpose of the name they bear. Others who know; have become apathetic towards building up their lives to conform to God’s instruction in the Holy Scripture on who a Chorister should be. Today, we now have so many unbelievers in the church who pretends to be believers; they deceive pastors and church leaders into occupying some significant positions in the church. The choir department is not left out of this. Drunkards, Cultists, prostitutes, armed robbers, criminals of all sorts are now becoming Choristers, not just Choristers but Choir Directors even. The Altar where the presence of God is supposed to have been dwelling consistently has now been filled with so many professing choristers and other ministers who are not living up to God’s expectations and standards. And yet, are not conscious of the impending detrimental effect of their harmful lifestyles to their soul. They throw caution to the wind without regarding God and His word. No wonder, we do not feel the powerful move of God in our services as supposed. Choristers are no more interested in the things of God. They live and act like the people of the world. Worldliness has crept into the church because of them and through them. Whomsoever that pollutes the altar of God, the same will not go scot-free. With these unruly lifestyles of so many acclaimed choristers of today and their nonchalant attitude towards living a well-pleasing life to God, I thought it not twice to write this book: “WHO IS A CHORISTER” for enlightenment. To make the choristers of today and the intending ones have a proper understanding of who a chorister should be. This book is aimed at bringing back sanity and sanctity to the church of God.

Preface After seeing the characters and lifestyles exhibited by so many professing choristers, their ignorance and nonchalant attitude about the office they occupy in the church, with much pain in my heart, I had to put up this writing if perhaps they will read and make amend. I tried my best in making researches on the internet about Christian books with reference to the choir but found few without detailed explanations and hence, through divine enablement, this book was written. I know it will go along way into helping as many that will come in contact with it, reading and assimilating all that is written therein. I will be very much glad and fulfilled if this book can be used by ministries, ministers of God, and other church leaders, for bible study or Sunday schools in our various churches to enhance the level of understanding of the choristers, intending ones and instrumentalists. And more so; to combat the rate of immorality that is becoming rampant in our churches, (amongst choristers particularly). “WHO IS A CHORISTER” is a book that will tremendously help you who is reading to grow in faith. The Origin of Music 🎶 🎤 Music originated from God. He instituted it, and it is primary to glorify Him. He had to invent music so we can reverence Him through praises and worship. God loved music so much that He had to set up a choir in heaven made up of Angelic hosts with Lucifer as the choir director. Lucifer directed the flow of music for some time until the day pride entered into him and wanted to set himself above his maker (God), the coup he planned failed him and he was thrown down from heaven with some of the Angels that were on his side. ‘‘See what was said about him’’. Thy pomp is brought down to the grave; and the noise of thy viols, the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 how art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground which didst weaken the nations. For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the cloud, I will be like the most high. Isa. 14:11-14 Lucifer was created by God as one of the heavenly beings with skills and technicalities in music to provide melodious songs or beautiful music for none else other than the glorification of God; he was the angel of music. When he fell in rebellion against God, he did not lose the natural abilities endowed on him by God - the ability to make music. These abilities he now uses to turn God’s creatures against their creator. You can see this from his powerful influence which he welds in the music industry of today. We see that music started with God, by Him and for Him alone. He created the Angels to praise and worship Him continuously. This was also His intention in making man. He prepared a garden and made everything available for man so he will not have excuses why he should no worship him. Man was kept in a place of enjoyment so that seeing God’s goodness and the glories of all that He has created, will learn how to praise Him at all time. But man could not last in the garden because of disobedience to divine instructions. The Garden of Eden was a clear depiction of God’s abode, His environment, His presence. Since the fall of man, the presence of God left man until He instructed that the church be built so His presence can be domicile there. This same church, the Altar where His Spirit dwells, the choristers and some other ministers has polluted, disobeying diving instructions again. But that notwithstanding, He has always kept for ages selected few who makes music to glorify His name. And his brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all such as handled the harp or organ Gen. 4:21 For the bible to mention this, means there had been certain group of people or families reserved by God for this special and sacred duty - making music of worship and praise to Him. He cannot do without music. Know it well. Singing of songs of praise was one of the fundamentals of the people whenever they gathered to worship God. It is what brings down the glory of God. So, for generations, God was always selecting out for Himself few people to sing and worship Him. This continued until God appointed the family of Levi to be in charge of every ministration in the tabernacle (Church) with the instructions of how it should be done. One of these instructions was sanctification. And it shall be for them an appointment as priests forever for, all generations. Exo. 40:15. And David said unto them, ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the lord God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it 1chro. 15:12. Throughout the Old Testament days, ministrations in songs and words (preaching) were mainly done by the Levite’s family. They had access to the altar alone when they are sanctified. No wonder, pastor’s children does well today in the music department of the church both in singing and playing of the instruments. Even when David was to set up a choir to sing for God, he commanded that choristers be chosen from the Levite’s family. And David spoke to the chief of the Levites, to appoint their brethren to be singers with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding by lifting up the voice with Joy. 1chro. 15:16 What could be David’s motive for this? Yes, he understood how important music is to God. He knew that music is very much vital in every worship service and that God’s presence does not move in a church where there is no music in display. But one thing is sure, that David remembered the appointment of the Levites for the ministry of singing, he was a very good singer and would have headed the choir, but he gave room for the rightful owners of the department to function. I must say here that messages from the altar by the pastors or priests cannot flow well without the church experiencing first, the powerful flow of God’s presence during praise and worship and even hymn section. Powerful worship songs, triggers the effectiveness of the pastor’s message in a church service. Since man lost his place in the Garden of Eden (God’s environment) because of defiance to device instruction, the only option left for man to enjoy God’s presence or be in His environment is nothing but giving Him a wholehearted, Spirit filled and true worship . But the hour cometh and now is when the true worshippers shall worship the father in spirit and in truth: for the father seeketh such to worship Him. 24 God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth john 4:23-24. When this is done, you experience the powerful move of God in congregations. God does not move in congregations during praise and worship section without a sign to show that He came down at the end of it. When last did the people testify of experiencing God’s healing power, prophecies, deliverance and receiving Holy Ghost baptism in our worship services in the church? Something is wrong somewhere. God loves music, He initiated it, and that is the only thing that can make us enjoy His environment. HIS KINGDOM COMES THROUGH PRAISE AND WORSHIP.
