Dedicated to @vagabondturnip Whaaaat, never heard of the Dahu...👀? If you go on the flank of a toothlike mountain, the best hike to do is ''in search of Dahu''. The dahu looks like the mountain goat but it is taller, horned and hooved. It grazes, craves salt and its bleat is more lugubriously melodious. Its most significant distinction from all other quadruped animals on the planet is the legs. The dahu’s legs on one side are about a foot and a half shorter than the dahu’s legs on the other side. As a result, it is able to navigate steep mountainous terrain as though it were flat. Short legs up, long legs down, the dahu goes around the mountain. Always in the same direction—clockwise🔂. As you can imagine, if it was to try to double back, the dahu would topple. Hopefully the dahu’s brain prevents it from even trying. In late summer, mating season, the plangent bleats of dahus transpierce the high mountain air🎶🎵. Now you know about the most famous creature of the mountain. My description here is from my own night hikes observations from France so the dahu can be different in your own high mountains.
