The picture here, is the one I found earlier today scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida. FOSSIL WHALE EAR BONE - TYMPANIC BULLA THE SCIENCE These Fossil Whale Ear Bones were found in the Southeast USA. The anatomical name for this bone is Tympanic Bulla. These fossils are 15 million years old (Miocene Epoch), which was a period when many recognizably modern animals evolved.

This is my Mako fossil sharktooth I found yesterday scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico, Florida. I measured it at 2 inches. The Extinct Mako shark lived in the Miocene era approximately 12 million years ago. Mako sharks grew up to 30 feet long and had a deadly arsenal of 147 razor sharp teeth. There have been teeth found that exceed 3 Inches ! ... Therefore a 3 Inch tooth would belong to a 26 foot long Mako Shark.

This is a sand dollar I found scuba diving the other day. This is a good size, and not broken which is often the case when found on a beach. Sand dollars are species of flat, burrowing sea urchins belonging to the order Clypeasteroida. Some species within the order, not quite as flat, are known as sea biscuits. Sand dollars can also be called "sand cakes" or "cake urchins".

So yesterday, I posted a picture of the picture on the left. This is the lower tooth of the snaggletooth shark. The picture on the right today would be the upper teeth of the snaggletooth shark. This species type of shark is now extinct, but there are ancestors still alive today. The short abbreviated Latin name people often use is "hemi".

These 2 pictures are a small snapshot of the Peace River in south central to western Florida. It might not look like it, but this river is a hotspot of finding fossil sharkteeth like the ones I've posted before. Not only can you find sharksteeth, but numerous of other fossils from large mammals that are now extinct. #mypics #original.
