Determination Determination is a quality that makes you continue to do or achieve something that is difficult. In life we all need to be determined to achieve our goals, aim and objectives. Though, there will be problems and challenges on our path to success but we need to persevere and be determined to overcome those obstacles. For instance, in our academics there are times where we feel like giving up due to stress, pressure from teachers or lectures,or failure in our courses. But all we need is perseverance and determination to keep striving. It doesn't matter how much or many times we have failed, all we need is determination to keep going. Sometimes, failure is a stepping stone to greatness because each time we fail, we learn from our mistakes and we make sure we don't make such mistakes again. Also, there are times where we need people or situations to trigger us to be determined. For example, Mike (who hasn't been doing well in his studies) has a crush on Angela (who is the best student in the class), then Angela turns him down because she can't date a person who's not brilliant. That situation there might just inspire Mike to be determined and start doing well in his studies. I implore every one reading this not to see ourselves as failures, we are all human beings and we are prone to make mistakes. Once there is life, there is hope. We just have to be determined and keep pushing. ****Quotes on Determination**** We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort. -Jesse Owens A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. - Colin Powell Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts. - Dan Gable The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination. -Tommy Lasorda You've got to get up every morning with determination if you're going to go to bed with satisfaction. -George Horace Lorimer Thanks for reading. I hope you were inspired.

When they push you, you push back harder. Hi, friends, Its been quite a while here. | thought to share this with you. I hope it blesses you. WHEN THEY PUSH YOU, PUSH BACK. HARDER! About thirteen years ago, we were at a camp meeting. My siblings and I had been anticipating this camp meeting for long, that we couldn't sleep overnight on the eve of our departure from home. I personally left home with fantasies about how I was going to be free to explore and play with other children from other towns. Don't crucify me yet. That was my definition of a camp meeting as at then. Trust me, yours truly did all that and more, which included running away from security officers and youth teachers commissioned to gather us for Bible lessons as we couldn't comprehend what was being taught in the mother church. All was good and fine until it came to queuing for food. If you know how unruly and naughty children can be especially in matters of the stomach, then it won't be that hard for you to picture about a hundred and fifty children pushing and shoving each other, trying to get food first. It almost resulted in a stampede, as we were so tightly packed that my stomach was pushed to the back of the person in front of me. Trust me, it was the definition of being sandwiched. The heavy shower further compounded the issue. My plate fell twice into the muck, (don't ask me how I cleaned it) and I got pushed at a time that only God and my sharp reflexes stopped me from plunging headlong into the muddied ground. At that exact moment, I saw my Daddy approaching from the direction of the mother church. Indignation welled up within me that I ran to meet him to report those kids were shoving my brother and I. He looked at me and said something I would never forget. "When they push you, you push back. Harder. These kids are your age mates or even younger than you are. Do you think I'll always be here to pull you up?" With that, I walked away. I half expected him to jump to my defense and probably shout at those kids on our behalf, so that they'll give us space to get our food quickly and leave. I turned, strode back to that queue with a purpose. Don't ask me what I did when I got there. What he said that day wasn't just about queuing for food. It far surpassed it.

Effects of Road Accident A road is a hard surface beautiful vehicles and people to move on. On the other hand, an accident is an unpleasant event especially in a vehicle that happens unexpectedly and causes injury or damage. Therefore, road accident are upleasant events which happens on a road common cause injury or damage. Visits to hospitals have shown that a sizable amount of patients are admitted as a result of road accidents thereby causing an increase in number of orphaned children. Road accidents have become rampant over the years as it is something that occurs every day and has not become a part of our daily lives. I would like to dive into the causes of this road accidents. There are many causes of road accidents but mentioned a few. First and foremost the main cause of road accidents especially in Africa is the bad condition of roads, studies have shown that more than 50% of road accidents recorded in a year is solely as a result of the poor condition of roads. You could find as many as 50 potholes and cracks on the short-distance, causing cars to run into them thereby leading to accidents. Moreover, road users are also to be blamed for the poor conditions of their vehicles. A lot of cars which has seen on the road are not roadworthy. This is most common with commercial drivers who despite knowing the condition of their cars use them putting your life and that of their passengers at risk. Furthermore, a lot of roads accidents which can be avoided still occur due to negligence of the road users. Such include drinking while driving or before driving, over-speeding,making phone calls while driving, e.t.c. any drivers lose their lives as a result of your own mistakes. Other causes of road accidents include: underage driving, misinterpretation of road signs and symbols, e.t.c. Below are the ways by which road accidents can be reduced. Don't drink and drive. Avoid over speeding. Ensure your vehicle is fit enough for the road. Discouragement of underage driving and many more. It is my opinion that road accident cannot be completely eliminated but it can be reduced to the barest minimum. If we added to the traffic rules and regulations, we can make the world a better place.

The Game "And that would be all." He grinned devilishly. " The job is yours, only if I have the assurance that we can wash each other's hands." He concluded, gesturing with his undersized hands and rubbing it over his ballooned belly. The man talked nasally, as though Pat had occluded his voice box. I wondered how someone as morbidly obese as he was could have such small hands. He moistened his lower lip with his tongue. That act alone disgusted me, but I struggled not to show it. He sat on a chair that looked custom made. His large body was crammed into it, his shirt almost bursting at the seams. His large owlish eyes sparkled with a certain glint, knowing that the offer of a whooping five hundred thousand Naira salary plus other fringe benefits for a fresh graduate would be hard to resist. He rubbed his hands together and stretched his facial muscles in the semblance of a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, while waiting for me to make a decision. The office was large and airy. The large windows behind him offered a flattering look of Lagos city. Skyscrapers in the distance glinted in the morning sun. Art Decor hung at strategic points on the wall, no doubt the work of a very seasoned interior decorator. The Governor and the President smiled down at us From one comer with knowing looks. My credentials were glowing with recommendations from my dean and lecturers. I graduated with first-class honors, engaged in different community service projects, and spearheaded several projects in school, even receiving awards for them. Getting an internship placement, i thought, would be a walk in the park, but I was in for the shock of my life. This was the third multinational company to invite me for an interview. I had answered the questions very well, even the tricky ones designed to throw me off track. I sat upright on the high back chair they had been magnanimous enough to provide during the interview. A medium-sized cup of coffee, or maybe it was tea, now cold, was left untouched on the table before me. I was too nervous to remember the reply I gave to the receptionist when she asked. A small plate of delicious looking cookies sat beside it. It was almost as if they wanted you to feel at home, and at the same time feel the loss of not having worked in such a beautiful establishment if you failed. I took a deep breath, allowing the air to escape slowly through my nostrils and pursed lips, knowing that my family's comfortability in the next Pew years hung on my next statement. I'm from an average Family and the first of four children. My two immediate siblings were in the university, while the youngest sat for her O'levels a few months ago. My parents were struggling to pay for their fees and upkeep. Getting this job meant an upgrade in our status. I could help sponsor my siblings, patch up the leaky sitting room roof and other renovations in the house, and replace my parents’ wardrobe. Those old, Faded Ankaras would thank me for relieving them of endless wash and wear. But was I ready to play? Are you ready to play?

The Nightmare He slithered along the low wall opposite their house like a snake. He woke up at about 2am two nights ago, hungry. He decided to raid the fridge downstairs. His mother would always stock the fridge to the brim at the beginning of every month. She worked with a health Firm and worked long and strenuous hours, which meant that she rarely had time for the family which interestingly consisted of himself and his mother. His father bowed out two years prior on reasons that his mum didn't want to talk about. He didn't want to talk about it too, as it meant reliving the brutal beatings and screams that accompanied him home every night after he came back from the beer parlour down the road. Things hadn't always been like that, at least not at the beginning when he was growing up. He was a happy little boy until his father lost his job due to the recession that ravaged the whole country that necessitated a reshuffling in the company where he worked. He lost the official car that was the perk of his position and became a drunkard. Before he lost his job, he had an expensive taste in armani suits, handmade Italian shoes and men's jeweleries and never contributed to the wellbeing of his home, except for his son's school fees. His mother never bothered because she earned well and was prudent enough with it. He quickly blew through the little savings he managed to scrounge up from his numerous accounts. He demanded for money on a daily basis from his wife and got beaten up when she couldn't cough it out soon enough. His Pellow drunkard friends urged him to take control of his home by collecting his wife's salary to show who was the boss. She refused to hand it over and got the beating of her life that landed her in an hospital. The scars on her torso told her story. She filed for an official court separation and a restraining order against him as she didn't believe in divorce. Ernest noticed the lights yesterday too and vowed to check it out. He had tiptoed downstairs to the kitchen, gently eased the door open, and shimmied through the small gap because it creaked loudly if it was opened completely. The cold air gave him goosebumps. He climbed over the wall using the pieces of blocks and planks that he had arranged there hours before dinner. His heart was hammering in his chest, but curiosity and a sense of adventure got the better of him. He was further emboldened by the Sherlock Holmes novel he was reading. He loved how fearless and intelligent he was and longed to be like him. He moved slowly and carefully in the shrubbery so as not to alert them to his coming. He slung the camera he got for his last birthday on his shoulder and crept nearer. He soon got to the porch of the house and looked through the open window. He opened his mouth and found it hard to close it. He scrambled for his camera and took some shots, being careful not to let its flash show. He heaved a sigh of satisfaction and turned to go back the same way he came, when strong hands grabbed him and lifted him up. He looked up to his father's face. "You shouldn't really be looking. You know?" He said with a wicked grin. He then threw him over the Fence and back into his compound. He landed with a thud on the floor, with a scream trapped in his throat. His pyjamas was damp with sweat. He breathed a sigh of relief when he looked around and found himself in his room. He must have fallen right off his bed. He managed to stand up and reach for the bottle of water on his nightstand. He peeped through the window blinds and still saw the eerie lights. . .. ... .... ..... Encourage me for more stories like this. Thanks.

Out of the dirt Part 2 (Concluding part). Mr Dieko hurried out of his duplex that morning at the exact time that the first bite of gala was making its way down to Femi's stomach. He couldn't even wait for his driver to arrive before he jumped into his venza and zoomed off. He couldn't afford to be late for the business meeting. As he drove down to the venue, he reminisced on his days of humble beginnings. He owned a shoe manufacturing company that specialized in building of school sandals and shoes, casual women footwear and boots. He built the company from scratch with his sweat and blood. He was looking towards venturing into corporate footwears for males and females, thereby enlarging his coast. This was the reason he rushed out of the house that morning, as he had set up a meeting with a very renowned shoemaker, who would train and work with about ten of his workers at a fee. His fees were exorbitant, and he was pretty demanding and rude, but it was a necessary price to pay. He didn't want to portray the image of an unserious business man to him on a first day. The roadside orange seller had just finished selling her peeled oranges, which was a rare Peat on a tuesday morning. She was overjoyed and rushed to cross the road to the other side, so as to purchase another bag for sales. She rushed into the oncoming traffic. Before she realized it, it was too late. A popular juju beat from king Sunny Ade blasted out from the skeletal bus' radio. The driver slowly bobbed his head up and down to the beat. He looked sideways at the women in skimpy clothings and admired one in particular. He turned his head back to the road and saw the girl, a second too late. He swerved and tried to avoid hitting her. Mr Dieko saw the girl too and swerved to the bus' lane in order to avoid hitting her. As he saw the oncoming bus, he swerved back into the left lane. The oncoming bus bumped the girl with its side and she went airborne. She landed with a thud on Mr Dieko's hood and she rolled to the ground. He braked abruptly to avoid driving over her. At that point, humanity prevailed over him. He jumped out of the car and saw her in the pothole, covered with bruises. She lifted up a hand and then passed out. Everybody aboard the bus alighted, as a large crowd had already gathered at the scene. Immediately the bus driver saw that the girl had passed out, he bolted for his vehicle and disappeared, thinking that the girl was dead. The crowd quickly dispersed for pear of police "wahala". Femi ran to the girl's side and checked for her pulse. "She's not dead!" He exclaimed. "Really? Thank God. Please lend me a hand" Femi and Mr Dieko lifted the girl and dropped her carefully on the car's backseat. Femi could not but notice the car's posh interior. He jumped in beside Mr Diekola and they drove to the hospital. She was wheeled into the accident and emergency department of the hospital. They both stood, pacing up and down the hospital's pristine halls. "She's awake now" A Nurse in pink scrubs said. "Can we see her?" Femi asked. "Of course." she replied with a beautiful smile. Her bruises were already covered in bandages and plaster. She attempted to lift her head as she saw the Nurse approaching with the two of them. The Nurse then introduced them. "Thank you Sir" she said with a small smile. "I'm sorry I didn't look well before crossing, ..." She rambled on. "Calm down. We thank God for keeping you safe." He interrupted. "What is your name?" He asked. "Now please excuse me gentlemen. Would you please go to the visitor's room?" The Nurse interrupted. "She needs to rest" she continued. "No problem Nurse" they both replied. "Please do not leave the premises for now, we would still need some information from you" she concluded. She then turned back to manipulate the drips going into Rita's veins. Femi and Mr Dieko walked out quietly. Only at that point did Femi remember his appointment. "Oh Jesus, Lord. God!!! I'm in so much trouble" Femi exclaimed with his mouth ajar. "Ihave an interview on the island by 9am. Mr Dieko gave him a puzzled look and checked his watch. "This is 10:20am" "Why today? God, what is happening?" He put his hands on his head for the third time that morning. "I have an appointment too for 10am. It seems as if we're both in the same dilemma." He sighed and leaned back on the chair. "What kind of job are you looking for?" He asked with a curious look on his face. "An executive job, an administrative job... Anything just to put food on the table" He replied. "Really, that's serious, jobs like that are hard to come by, in this town and by extension in this country" "I know, right?" He said with a dejected look. "Why don't you start up something? I myself am an advocate of youths setting themselves up instead of those white collar jobs." He asked him. "I like it too, but money doesn't come forth quickly. Besides, people look down on us." "Hmmn, that's a low blow.considering the fact that I'm an entrepreneur myself." He said while stroking his beards. "Oh! I'm sorry Sir, I didn't know it sounded that way." He then said after a pause. "Take a look at me Sir, during our SAED -Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program in my service year. I opted for shoe making" At the mention of "shoe making", his interest was piqued and his demeanour changed." You can make shoes?" "Yes Sir." Femi replied. "I even got a medal for the best art and craft design when we were asked to display them then. But afterwards. I was called a shoemaker and they made jest of me till I left camp, despite the fact that I made shoes for most of them without collecting a dime." He said with a sad face. "What kind of shoes can you make?" "I can make both male and female shoes and bags" He answered. "Well, that's great then." He said after some thoughts "Would you like to accompany me to my factory after we get this over with?" "What! You make shoes?" He said with a look of astonishment. "Yes I do." He replied with a look of pride. "Let's go test your ability." He said with a small smile. "But...ha..whh..." He stammered. "You don't know me from Adam, except for about one hour ago." He managed to say. The next morning saw him at his face-me-i-slap-you apartment with a company van to pack his few possessions. His neighbours stood in clusters to discuss the new development. The woman de-husking melons on the verandah the previous day particularly gave him the evil eye. He handed over the keys of the apartment to the landlady and strode out of the premises to the waiting van. FLASH BACK He sat at the huge work table and measured precisely to the inch of the shoe model he was asked to make. Sweat trickled down his back as he cut and smoothened the edges of the leather. He carved, folded and padded it until it Fit the model he was given. Mr Dieko sat at the opposite end of the room behind a one-way glass, watching him make the shoe, step by step. He recognized talent when he saw one. He had his secretary draft a copy of a contract for Femi before the day ran out. He had found what he was looking for. He rose and shook hands with him. As the company driver drove him through the same route he took while half walking, half running the previous day, he could only say that "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Isaiah 43:19 (KIV) "Behold, I will do a new thing now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

Out of the dirt Part 1. Apart from accidentally pricking himself twice with the needle he was using to stitch his trousers by the light of the dimming lantern, he had also managed to slap himself twice, no thanks to the horde of mosquitoes that decided that his ears made a perfect audience for their music. "Ouch" he exclaimed. He had pricked himself again. He sucked out the blood that surfaced and examined the stitching he made on the cloth. "This should suffice, at least for a while” he muttered to himself. He laid down on his bed after hanging the trouser by a hook to the wall. He thought of the events of the day. He almost got discouraged at the number of "we'll get back to you" which most often than not, was politely used to tell you that your likes weren't needed. A tear escaped the corner of his eye, when he remembered the disdainful look that the gateman of the company he went to for interview gave him. He also remembered the push from the crowd as he was struggling to board a bus, which led to the rip in his trousers. He brushed it off and picked up his Bible to read. He opened it randomly and his eyes fell upon a verse in the book of Proverbs. He read it aloud to himself. "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men." It wasn't his first time of reading that verse. He wondered why that verse was coming to him at that time. He then knelt down at his bed and begged God to intervene in his matter. What he didn't know was that that one-sentenced prayer that he made with tears in his eyes, and faith in his heart, had set in motion. a series of chain reactions that would soon come to manifestation. He then slept off deeply. He jerked awake the next morning at 7:45am, to the sound of the grinding machine of the woman behind his window. He looked at the wall clock and screamed. "Jesus! No no no no no" he said repeatedly. He put his two hands on his head while dashing frantically round his tiny room. "Where is my shirt and shoes?" He was almost putting them on before he remembered that he hadn't taken his bathe. He thought of the queue that would be outside their rented building bathroom. He carried a bucket of water, picked up his toiletries bag and dashed to the uncompleted building in front of the house. He hid in a corner and took his bathe under three minutes. The woman de-husking melons on the verandah laughed at him, as he ran back to the house. He dashed out of the house in a record time of ten minutes. He was to go for an interview at 9am at a company on the island. He thought of the Lagos traffic and shook his head pitifully at himself. "Why should i wake up late today, of all days?" He queried himself. He was halfway to the bus stop when he remembered that he didn’t pray that morning. He quickly muttered few words of prayer and continued to trek on. The last luxurious bus left just as he was about entering the bus stop. He stomped his foot angrily on the ground and put his two hands on his head. He suddenly looked up and spotted a skeletal bus in the distance, surrounded by an halo of dust. He waited for it and hopped on when it arrived. He then stated his destination. After the usual "wole pelu change e" that was typical slang of Lagos conductors, he discovered that only a small stool was used to hold down one of the pedals. In addition to that, the engine made a coughing sound every two minutes or so. He knew he was done for, but he continued to "rugged" it by faith. He purchased a gala sausage roll and pure water from a roadside hawker and paid through the window. "At least. that would give me energy for the trek of life that I'm going to make today" he thought. Anticipate the concluding part tomorrow, as we learn what becomes of the protagonist.

Football Weekend. We were all having a beautiful, nice and lovely weekend as I and my friends were awaiting the biggest football match of the game week. It was an English Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool. There was a lot of banting before the match especially by Chelsea fans who had won 7-0 to Norwich but nevertheless Manchester United fans had great expectations for the match because they had won a match against Atalanta during the week which ended 3-2 thanks to a comeback. There was power outage in our hostel, so we had to go to the school's football viewing center very early so as to secure a front row seat to view the match very clearly. At the time we got to the viewing center, we met only few people there watching another match between Real Madrid and Barcelona which is popularly known as the 'El Classico'. It was then it dawned on us that those two fixtures clashed but little did I know that those fixtures would lead to a fight between three young guys At the viewing center there are two television sets, one of them runs smoothly while the other one lags and reduces the quality of what you're watching. The match between Manchester United and Liverpool was being displayed on the bad TV set because the El Classico had begun earlier. As the match went on, the majority of the people at the viewing center were complaining to switch the El Classico to the bad TV so as to watch the Premier league on the good TV and every one agreed to that because majority of the people there came to watch the premier league but there was only one guy who opposed this and out of annoyance( he was a Barcelona fan) he went to switch off the TV and every one got very angry. There was a young guy at the center who confronted him and told him what he did was wrong but then another Barcelona fan stood up and supported his co - fan and then an argument started which lead to a fight due to the swear words used during the argument. After the fight went on for five minutes, there was intervention from two guys ( a Barcelona fan and a Liverpool fan) and that was how the fight was resolved, after all the games had ended, the guys involved in the fight shook hands exchanged contacts and that was how they became friends. Meanwhile, the match ended 5-0 in favour of Liverpool and Mohammed Salah scored an hat-trick and had an assist, Christiano Ronaldo scored a goal but it was ruled as offside. The problem Manchester United faced in the game was their defense and besides one of their key players was shown a red card and many fans also complained that the coach is not performing as he should and they want him sacked. Well, Manchester United face another tough fixture next weekend again Tottenham Hotspurs. Till then let's stay anticipated. PEACE ✌🏻

Realities of Virtual Learning Due to the pandemic that occured the world recently, many activities were restricted and physical learning was one of them and most schools had to devise means to continue teaching and accessing their students. And they had to result in virtual learning which has various advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage of virtual learning is that learning has been made easy because students can learn from the comfort of their homes and also access learning materials from the school portal at any time. Also, virtual lectures can be recorded and referenced anytime needed Moreover, students have been able to acquire some computer skills because most of the assignments given require the use of computers as they involve typing, scanning, and sending of emails to lecturers which in the process, some students acquire knowledge in those aspects. Furthermore, the virtual system of learning in the university has helped students build a friendly relationship amongst themselves as they have to create chat groups on social media to pass information and also study together which increases their teamwork skills. As there are so many advantages of virtual learning in schools, there’s also a lot of disadvantages. One disadvantage is the effect of excess screen time on the students which can lead to eye defects. Another disadvantage is that there’s a lot of expenditure involved in setting up and attending a virtual class as students and lecturers have to purchase cellular data to host and participate in a virtual lecture. Lastly, virtual learning has reduced student’s physical activities and leaves them in front of their computer screens to learn what they’ve signed up for. In conclusion, the virtual learning system has both advantages and disadvantages but it’s an effective method of learning that can help develop a student’s performance. The important thing is proper time management to meet deadlines.
