The Yew tree - Tree of the Underworld The Yew tree (taxus baccata) is highly poisonous in almost all parts of the plant, so it is not recommended to taste the beautiful red fruits. The flesh is edible but the seeds are deadly for most mammals. I like them very much, they look like little balls of wax. Nevertheless: Hands off!

Interestingly, what is red is usually poisonous.

I'd stay completely away from them. One might mistakenly take a bite from the seed.
