There was much noise today about amazon accepting cryptos in the future. Yes, that would be a big step towards global acceptance. But there are a few things that prevent me from doing so. 1) Now they just take my fiat out of the account. I order, done. Would I allow that for my wallet and is that even possible? I think not. So I would have to make each payment myself. I don't want that as a lazy old man. 2) Would I have concerns about the exchange rate changing? Of course! I wouldn't want to buy a book only to find out tomorrow that it was 10x more expensive yesterday when I bought it. 3) Would I want to give my hard-earned sats to a global player? Certainly not! We all know that the value of our coins will increase. We know it! So I'd rather give away what will lose value over time, my fiat. Either way, amazon will get richer. The question is whether I will become more or less poor. I answered that question for me. IF I give my sats to someone, then I like that someone. Then I want them to have something in the future. Family, friends, good noisers and that's it. Original image by https://pixabay.com/de/users/sammy-williams-10634669/ edited for fun by Cryptozeug

I don't want that as a lazy old man. I think we'd just get a barcode to scan. I'm not sure how they would handle subscriptions, though. 2) Would I have concerns about the exchange rate changing? That's a gamble you'll have to take with purchasing stuff with Crypto in general. The real question is how they're going to process returns lol 3) Would I want to give my hard-earned sats to a global player? Certainly not! Agreed, but at the same time we need to be able to spend a coin in order for it to have any value, right? My biggest concerns are: 1) Them choosing BTC over BCH. Who's going to want to spend out the ass on network fees for their goods? 2) Amazon totally bypassing the major coins and coming up with their own coin. This opens a serious rabbit hole where every company creates their own coins to be used in their own stores, and suddenly you're paid with your company's coin. It could get real gross real fast if that's the case.
1) Maybe, but we have to scan. Or to copy paste something when using laptop. Subscriptions, you mean prime? 2) Yep, and I don't like that gamble. Returns through instant swaps, like u/Fullcoverbetting mentioned. 3) Right, and I will spend it. But in my opinion it's too early to see a "real" value in it. Like the pizza day. I don't want to feel like him for now. Your concerns are going much further, I admit I din't think so far. 1) They would regret it and they know it. If not, we smile and wait... 2) That is a horrible future but indeed possible. "own" coins. And we are back to fiat.
1) Prime, but also some items allow you to "subscribe" to them. It'll basically order you a new one every few months. You can get a discount if you do it that way. It's handy for things that you consume a lot of. 2) That might work - so like, they just send you a new one of whatever you're returning? 3) I don't feel bad for the pizza guy at all. We need more of that stuff - it shows utility of the crypto coin and helps bridge it into the physical world. == On your other point 2) it would be worse than fiat. Right now most of us only really have to deal with one fiat (sometimes two if you have to deal with your own + USD). Imagine having to fumble with iCoin, McCoin, SonyCoin, AmazonCoin, EbayCoin, GoogleCoin, WalmartCoin, etc. etc. etc.
I see, you have a more practical view. Maybe I develope in that direction but that needs time. 1) The abos... they will have their own codes, connected to your account. 2) I misunderstood you. You meant returns of items, not fiat for crypto. 😁 3) I'd rather have a pizza a day for the rest of my life. But sure, that bridge lasts until today. He's a lighthouse. As you see, different approached. But good to have a conversation about it. 🤜🤛
1. Maybe we will start seeing wallets that have auto-pay features where you're given a wallet address from Amazon and set the app to pay it on a certain day every month automatically? 2. If they start accepting crpyto, they'll have to change their returns policy, otherwise things will get wacky. The amount of BCH returned won't change, but the equivalent value in fiat will... So if things work in your favour, you could return something today, then cash out that BCH and actually make money off of nothing. This could destroy a business and even put a real blemish on Amazon. 3. I still wouldn't feel stupid if I were the pizza guy. I'd argue to the grave that he's almost as important as Satoshi himself. Satoshi made the coin, but Pizza Man really brought it to the mainstream and showed that you can buy tangible goods with magical internet money. You also have to look at things in perspective, too, otherwise we could look at people who sold their houses 10+ years ago in the same kind of way.
