Adulthood I have noticed that adulthood comes with a lot of pressure, especially in Nigeria. Both internal and external pressure. There's this perpetual pressure to be like or surpass your mates; agemates, school mates, course mates... whatever mates. Your agemates are all getting married and having children but you're yet to figure out whether you want a relationship or not. There's pressure to be like normal people. You think that there's something wrong with you. You think your school mates are doing better or earning better than you. There's pressure to work harder, to do better, to explore more options. You even begin to question your career path, you start wondering if you're on the right path or just wasting your time. Your course mates are setting up their law firms, getting their LLMs and basically carving riches for themselves; but you're greeted every morning with rejection mails. There's just a whole lot of pressure and it kills us silently (it has killed me before now) Then, there is the black tax that most of us have to pay. Sometimes, we finish spending our salary before it hits our accounts. There's a younger sibling to take care of, an aged parent or just some random need to be attended to at home. Sadly, things are not as they were during our parents' time. THERE ARE NO JOBS. THE NAIRA IS ALMOST VALUELESS. The standard of everything has dropped and prices of things, even things as basic as health care have gone so high. In Abuja, I consider it the exclusive preserve of the rich to fall sick. Yet we're expected to survive, get married and raise children. The pressure on young people is just so much. We may not admit it, but it is. We put pressure on ourselves without realising it. Our family, friends and supposed well wishers put pressure on us too and they don't even know it. Sometimes, we unknowningly push ourselves past our breaking points. Sadness creeps, anxiety follows and if we don't watch it, we slowly slip into that dark corner. To every young person out there, especially the minors... To every young person struggling to make it... To every young person who has to pay the black tax even when they are yet to find their feet... To every young person who feels like the world has moved on and left them behind... To every young person who thinks they are doing something wrong because they've been broker than they can remember and have barely saved a dime this year... To every young person who has received more rejection mails than they can count... To every young person who life has thrown several curve balls at... To everyone of us, I need you to know that you're not alone. We will all get there. We will achieve our dreams and surpass them. We'll look back on these days and wonder why we ever worried. State Of My Country Economy (Nigeria) The price of Petroleum has gone up. The law and order situation has deteriorated. The economy has almost collapsed. The dollar has reached its highest level. Inflation has broken the backs of the people. What a change.

Relationship of Nowadays. Relationships do not work nowadays because we are dating people who still love and misses thier EX, We are dating people who are trying to move on, We are dating people who date for the sake of showing thier EX that they can live without them, We are dealing with broken hearts we did not break, We suffer from distrust and insecurity we did not create, This is how it will all land us in marriage, We live as husband and wife so long there is money, sex and comfort, But our hearts are opposite and far from each other. When money, sex and comfort seem to wane and be fed up with... Marriage seizes to exist, Divorce and go our separate ways, It's a recycle, we go on to date and marry another person to start it all afresh. What a pity. Please do watch your feelings.

One Good Turn, Deserve Another. During the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, many Igbo people fled other parts of the country for the East because they were being killed and massacred wantonly and the Federal Military Government was doing nothing about it. Many abandoned their homes, properties and businesses for safety. Of them, was a young Igbo architect who had a young Yoruba banker as a neighbour in Apapa, Lagos. He also abandoned his home, and with his family, fled for the East. However, the young Yoruba banker, while the war lasted, rented out his neighbour's house and kept every kobo for him while he was in the East. In 1970, after the war had ended, the Igbo architect returned to Lagos and the Yoruba banker handed over the entire proceeds of the rent, and also the house, to the Igbo architect. Some few years later, the Igbo architect became the Vice President of Nigeria and the Yoruba banker established a commercial bank; the first by a private citizen in the country's history. However, he could not get a license to begin banking operations. Many people were against him because it was unheard of at the time. At this time, the banker remembered his neighbour who was now the Vice President and tracked him to the Christ Church Cathedral, Marina, Lagos on a particular Sunday. He had tried to get an appointment to see him in his office but it was without success. He and his wife then decided to go lay ambush for him at the Church but the security men would not allow them around the Vice President. The couple then decided to sit by the pew close to the aisle to beat the security in the hope that the Vice President would see them while he walked to the front row. Yet, he still didn't see them. After the church programme, they positioned that he will see them on his way out. However, the people following him out and the security men blocked his view. That was when the banker's wife decided to take a risk and like the woman with the issue of blood, pulled the Vice President's attire to get his attention who then turned and saw his old friend and his wife. The young banker then narrated his plight and told the Vice President how he had tried to see him and what he needed to see him for. He told the him about his application for a bank licence. “Don’t worry yourself. Just come tomorrow at the Federal Executive Council meeting which I would preside because President Shehu Shagari would not be there,'' the Vice President assured him. At 3.00 pm the next day, the Finance Minister called the banker on phone that his licence was ready. The rest they say is history. That young banker was Otunba Michael Olasubomi Balogun while the architect in this narrative was one of Africa’s elder statesmen and former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme. The bank is what is now First City Monument Bank (FCMB). One good turn truly deserves another and it is good to love our neighbours as ourselves. Have a historical week ahead.
