On our riverboat paddlewheel trip down the Chena River out of Fairbanks Alaska stop by a Athabascan Indians Village this is one of the exhibits they had explaining how they live of the land. Here they had a Big moose and explained how they tanned the hide and they never waste any part of the animal.

@Chuckinflorida

I caught this duck on a fly by as we were cruising down the Chena River on the paddlewheeler Discovery.

@Chuckinflorida

Walking on my morning hike photographed these Red-breasted Nuthatches have very short tails and almost no neck; the body is plump or barrel-chested, and the short wings are very broad. Red-breasted Nuthatches are blue-gray birds with strongly patterned heads: a black cap and stripe through the eye broken up by a white stripe over the eye.

@Chuckinflorida

Pileated woodpeckers are some of the most easily identifiable birds due to their large red crest on top of their heads. I see these spectacular woodpeckers almost everyday in North Central Florida where I live. #birdwatching

@Chuckinflorida

Yesterday we drove up to Hatcher Pass to get some photographs and play in the snow ❄️ just a little. There a lot of history here. Just a little information about the area. The 49-mile rugged Hatcher’s Pass is named after Robert Lee Hatcher, who was a prospector and miner in the area in the early 1900s. Just to the west of Hatcher’s Pass lies the Independence Gold mine, which was home to the mining of 140,000 ounces of Gold before it was shut down just before World War II.

@Chuckinflorida

While it’s found statewide in roadsides, meadows, and woods, there’s nothing common about common fireweed. This hardy flower is one of the first plants to appear after a fire or other ground disturbance, its hot pink/magenta petals sprouting from a (usually) single stalk. And it’s one of my favorite wildflowers to see when I visit Alaska.

@Chuckinflorida

I’m sitting at Ted Stevens International airport over cast with a temp of 46°F and cloudy
