Miyerkules ng Abo (Ash Wednesday) Today is the day of Ashes, the start of the Lent and one of the biggest day in the church behind Christmas and Easter. "Takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday, and is chiefly observed by Catholics, although many Christians also observe it." Ash Wednesday is the day of fasting, repentance and abstaining from eating meat and also on Good Friday and all Fridays of the Lent. A priests places ashes on the forehead in the shape of a cross as a symbol of death and repentance. A reminder to us that we are all dust and shall return to dust. And "even non- Christians and the excommunicated are welcome to receive the ashes. (catholic. org) What to give up for Lent: (yourmodernfamily. com) * Don't buy anything that you don't NEED and you can't afford. Be practical... * Throw away 40 things for 40 days. So far, I don't just throw but recycle everything and give to others if it's still usable or wearable. And honestly, what I'm only throwing sometimes even if it's not on lent is the remaining sofdrinks, used oil, seasonings for they have no better use inside our bodies but sickness. * 40 Days of home Organization. You can donate and share the things you don't need anymore after cleaning and decluttering. * No Gossiping. Hello, Mars and Tolits and friends, you're banned! Share something helpful to others not the life of your friends, neighbors, and family. It's very unproductive and waste of time. *Work out daily to take care of the body God gave you. I think this is what I keep on reminding even to myself. * Don't eat after dinner. Another reminder I keep on telling here and there and many of you here know my early dinner practice. It's not just about getting sexy and healthy physically but spiritually. *Give up soda for Lent. It's everyday giving up for me except for birthdays and if I'm not coughing. * Say 3 Nice Things to your spouse and kids daily...and to everyone if you can and not just on lent! *Don't eat out for 40 days. Just eat fruits and veggies raw, steamed, or half-cooked very easy to prepare and healthier. *Replace 30 minutes of TV or screen time with extra 30 minutes of devotion/prayer. Bible story time for family and healthy discussions about it are better than what you saw on tv especially this times. *Do not Complain or Speak Negatively. We're only humans but better use our time to pray and be thankful for the simple things we have everyday. And here, sharing with you our Ash Wednesday ulam. Pickled bamboo shoots (the one shown in my photo from few days ago post), and adobong sitaw with water spinach.
