Sharing with you another May bloom here, our Papilionanthe teres formerly Vanda teres from Orchidaceae family. I took these photos yesterday morning few hours after a 3am rain and I was able to capture an ant drinking a drop of dew. These plants are around 80 species but we only have one or two here and I wish I can have 78 or 79 more of it. And since I'm vegan, I wanted to know if these plants are edible. Yes, blooms of orchids are considered safe consumption but there some species that can irritate the stomach. Orchids are a great choice for cake decorations and garnishes though not typically consumed in their natural state but flowers or canes are dried then steeped in hot water to create a tea or powder mix for milk, drinks and for making desserts like cakes and ice cream, and breads. However, it is now illegal to export the powder inorder to conserve the wild orchid population.
