That was some interesting music, (and videos). But what, pray tell, do you find so admirable about Ernesto Guevara? Sure, he uncovered lots of dreadful deeds perpetrated by government allied multi-national corporations, but IMHO his solutions to these problems were as bad as the problems themselves. (Support a petty tyrant like Castro? No thanks!) Capitalism may suck, particularly when monopolistic corporations form alliances with governments, (e.g., Google, Facebook), but I have yet to see any evidence that anything based on the writings of Marx doesn't turn out much worse. Maybe that's a bit harsh, but I'd really like to know: what is so wonderful about Che? I've known folks who thought he was a cool dude, (and even some who admired Castro, which completely mystifies me), but other than the fact that his pic looks nice on a t-shirt, I don't understand any of it.
Revolutions start with young man with big ideals, then live happens. Young man get sucked into the slime and ooze of politics, protectionism of their inner circle and hunger for power. ItΒ΄s not the ideals that a corrupt itΒ΄s human nature to be corrupt and always hungry for more. The same thing applies to all political streams and in a totalitarian regime it covered up less than in a so called democratic one. Hence itΒ΄s not so much about the end results, they will always be corrupted. ItΒ΄s about standing up and fighting for ideals and being the underdog. On top of that I still believe that a society in which class is not so evident and wealth is (re)divided more equally is in its core a more human society. That this can not be achieved due to greed, jealousy and hate goes to show that even if you would give humans a better place they would turn it into a Cesspool.
"That this can not be achieved due to greed, jealousy and hate goes to show that even if you would give humans a better place they would turn it into a Cesspool." I totally agree, unfortunately. If you want to have a better society, you first need to come up with a better human being.
"If you want to have a better society, you first need to come up with a better human being." this quote they can put on my grave it made me smile and gave me goosebumps at the same time
Thanks for being one of the few people here with at least half a brain! Really good comments as always btw.
Thanks. But seriously, I've never understood the appeal of Che. Maybe if I could get the other half of my brain working, I'd understand? My darn comment got carried away on a side issue. That was interesting music. (And the "pirate" video was fun!) On a few of them I felt like I was listening to one of Carlos Santana's backing bands, and was anticipating his guitar solo to come screeching in at any moment.
Well side issue indeed, but for me the appeal was to fight for what you believe in itΒ΄s as simple as that and of course Che was human too and itΒ΄s more about what he represents just like any other Icon or Idol.....as they probably all screwed up as they were all humans with half a brain
Okay .... so it's "fight against the man" type appeal. I admit that is valuable, particularly in these times of governmental "health" mandates. Personally I'd like to lead a mob with pitchforks and torches to Google, CNN, and CDC headquarters, but I'm too old and cowardly.
That is the great thing about leading, you can lead your troops from behind, but indeed itΒ΄s about having the guts to stand up for what you believe in and lacking the brain to know it will get you nowhere but killed.
And now you mention it there are indeed many Santana influences which I did not even notice when putting the set together.
