What is Taproot? Taproot is an update of the Bitcoin protocol, which will be implemented in the network of the first cryptocurrency as a soft fork. By combining the Schnorr signature scheme with MAST (Merklized Alternative Script Tree), as well as the new Tapscript scripting language, Taproot will increase the flexibility of BTC smart contracts with increased privacy, allowing users to disguise complex smart contracts as normal transactions. Thus, this is a technological upgrade of the existing blockchain, which allows: Improve user data privacy; conduct secure transactions; scale the network to handle large transactions with higher throughput. The main goal of Taproot is to change the way Bitcoin scripts work, thus improving the privacy, scalability, and security of the blockchain as a whole.
