South Korean authorities have confiscated the assets of about 12 thousand people in cryptocurrencies due to allegations of tax evasion. Assets in bitcoin, ether and other cryptocurrencies totaling more than 53 billion ($47 million) were seized. This was written on Wednesday by the Financial Times, citing officials from the government of Gyeonggi Province, in which Seoul is located. These measures were taken as part of a months-long investigation into tax evasion using cryptocurrencies. Among those who were confiscated cryptocurrencies— a popular TV presenter in the country, as well as a certain entrepreneur, which is listed for 30 properties. According to the authorities, the operation was the largest in the history of South Korea, the confiscation of cryptocurrencies in the fight against tax evasion. Experts note that the South Korean authorities are taking other measures to strengthen control over cryptocurrencies.
