A family from New Jersey has received a phone call requesting $10,000 for their daughter's safe return. Local cops follow up on the girl and found that she was healthy at school. The FBI first noticed such "internet kidnappings" in the Southwestern border states. The fraud is now expanding to California, Minnesota, Idaho, Texas and beyond.
