Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人) is a story of a desolate world, with the last traces of humanity hiding inside one final land with a city still left standing.
Civilization has been completely eradicated outside of the three wall levels surrounding and protecting Shiganshina (the name of the city).
The reason for humanity having reached the brink of existance is anthropomorphic Titans that appeared all of the sudden and created havoc amongst men. These are men eating giants that brought chaos and devastation in all lands and are now on their way of destroying the last stronghold of mankind.
The main protagonist, Eren Yeager is a tragic figure with only one objective in mind, to take revenge for the death of his mother by the hated enemy. Titans seem to be unrivaled but Eren and his squad will become humanity's last line of defence.
Script, Animation, Dialogues, Storyline all perfect
The whole concept of Titans exterminating Mankind is set as an allegory giving a higher meaning and stimulates some deep thinking. The scenes from the very first moment are disturbing even for adults and definitely not recommended for young ages.
Times change and even 10 year old children today watch horror movies (although again not recommended), but there are some are series, movies and certain anime that are not mindless action pact movies that try to scare the audience with sudden loud music and effects.
This anime contains very brutal scenes that most of the fans of the series at times could not watch, or re-watch particular moments when they were represented as flashbacks. Adults will turn away from some scenes because of the raw representation of a titan eating human beings.
It is not an easy anime to watch and in the beginning it gives a sense of hopelessness and desperation. It seems that this is an impossible task for humanity to survive since some small victories are usually followed by massive defeats in the battleground.
The script has depth and details that don't leave a room for gaps. It is almost perfect in this sense and adds to the overall professionalism that helped this amazing anime reach to millions of fans worldwide.
The anime contains incredible design and magnificent artwork, and the story is majestic. The production of the anime brings some clues at times that help with understanding the story better and the battles have a realistic approach, with high attention given to physics details.
Manga And Anime Commercial Success
Attack on Titan had a great run so far and is now on Season 4, with part one of the season having aired. Season 4 part 2 is expected sometime in 2022.
All reports suggest that this will be the final season and there will not be room for a 5th one, so we should expect the anime to end with the second part of the final season.
The anime is based on the Attack on Titan manga that has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide so far. There are also Japanese films created based on Attack on Titan but did not manage to perform well, and having watched one of them I wouldn't recommend anything else but the anime and manga.
Attack on Titan puts us in the story, and makes us think beyond just the storyline. The fights and the dialogues are of the highest quality and the suspensful atmosphere is overwhelming.
Lastly
This was my presentation of Attack on Titan. A must-watch anime for anyone that is a fan. It is an anime that nobody thought could become commercial and rise in such popularity but the quality of details in writing and drawing made it reach worldwide recognition.
I could not write more details about the story and how it proceeds and I feel that I didn't give spoilers but instead created enough interest to the viewer reading my review.
AOT was a good anime, i agree to that.
