Why Do You Help?

How often do you render help to people?

Do you help people only because you are expecting a favor in return?

Are you a type that helps people because of some motives best known to you?

I am sorry to put it to you that many have refused any kind of help from a person simply because they are afraid of what the other party might want in return and if they don't have that thing to give, then they feel indebted to the person.

In the same way, men have been tagged as helpers with benefits. Society and some likes of men has made it look like no man can ever help a lady without asking for something in return

They have constantly reminded them that there is no free thing. They say even in Freetown nothing is free.

Securing titles and positions in society has been made the same

If someone helps you secure a position or stature today, it's because they will be needing your help tomorrow.

But was this how it was supposed to be?

When did we get to this point? That none can genuinely offer help because of an alternative motive?

It now seems impossible for people to help without anything in return and even if some people are genuinely lending a helping hand, some will still be in doubt about their genuine help.

I will pause and ask again, how often do you help a person in need?

Do you only help those that will be of benefit to you either now or in the future?

Before helping a person, ask yourself these questions;

Why am I helping this person?

Will there ever be a point in my life that I will use the help I am offering now against the one I am helping?

If you can't honestly give answers to these questions then perhaps you should think again.

You shouldn't help a person to the detriment of needing something or a favor in return.

Help because you want to help and not because you need a favor in return.

Don't be pushed by your motives to help someone.

Do it because you genuinely want to do it.
