In Hungary, there is no custom of tapping glasses when toasting. This tradition dates back to 1848, when Austria defeated Hungary in a revolution and celebrated it by tapping glasses. The Hungarians have decided never to knock on glasses since then. Those decisions have been kept for a full 150 years!
