This cheerful lizard is the leopard gecko, Eublepharis macularius, found in the rocky desert areas of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and northwest India. They are usually yellow with irregular black marks but can exhibit other colors and patterns, especially captive individuals who may have been bred selectively. The leopard gecko is one of the most popular lizard pets and is considered by some to be the first domesticated lizard. Leopard geckos are unable to climb up smooth surfaces because they don’t have sticky toe pads like most geckos. However, they do have some other cool superpowers. A leopard gecko's tail is segmented, which means if part of the tail is lost it can be regenerated (though it might not look quite the same). Also, unlike some other gecko species, leopard geckos can blink by closing their eyelids, but they’re still partial to moistening their eyes with their tongue in that adorable lizardy way. #Photography
