It's Friday again which means it's time to go through my photos of mushrooms. This time the search did not take long. Even though mushrooms are most abundant in autumn, spring brings out some nice surprises, too. Morchella mushrooms are unusual spongy species that form cavernous structures on their caps. The mushroom inside is hollow, as you can see in my photo below where one of them has probably fallen apart due to old age. Morchellas are supposed to be fairly common, yet, it's the first time that I see them with my own eyes. I have admired their beauty many times from the pages of my mushroom book but last week when I was going to a bus stop in a previously unfamiliar to me neighbourhood, I noticed something unusual by the small bushes in front of the apartment blocks. I was in a hurry, though I could not just walk past. Thankfully I had been walking fairly quickly and I knew I still had some extra minutes before the bus would come.
