I just learned that there are insects called fig wasps that end up laying eggs inside the fruit of fig trees and their larvae hatch while the fig is ripening. (Reference) I think I will stop eating figs... Some species of wasps are actually predators. They look a bit different from the usual wasps that sometimes pester us. I remember taking photos of predatory wasps in the wild but finding the photos would be a challenge. Speaking of looks, commonly seen wasps are somewhat similar to bees, however, they are actually slimmer, longer and there is a clear separation between the body segments. Bees are hairy and have wider wings. Here is the inspiration behind this post. I was taking photos of the flowers in my grandmother's yard. There was a particular plant with a wasp walking over every single flower.
