My camera was not with me but thankfully my phone was able to capture these beauties well enough. To spice up the photos a bit, I processed them in an app to add some extra character to the picture. You can also see the unprocessed picture for reference. Morchella mushrooms, or true morels, are a type of edible mushroom valued for their flavour. I have not tasted them myself, but I am a mushroom friend and avoid eating any. It should be noted that morels are actually toxic when raw, but appropriate cooking makes them safe to eat. That holds also for Gyromitra esculenta, or false morels. They are somewhat similar, though, their cap is wrinkled a bit like a brain instead of having holes like the Morchella. False morels are spring mushrooms, too, though, I have not seen any yet this year. Maybe this weekend luck will be on my side.
