The blood that failed I remember seeing her Like it was yesterday Her eyes twinkled with delight As she played in the sands Her face, full of joy and laughter As she felt happy, safe and secure. Now all I have of her is memories. How could this have happened? How, in the name of God, did my blood allow this to happen? How can she let her blood, my daughter to be defiled over and over until she was broken beyond repair? How can she keep silent and protect her assailants simply because they are family? Isn't my daughter family too? What in the name of God can I call this? What pain in the world can this be quantified with? The pain of betrayal by blood or the pain of loss of blood? My heart is cut open Bleeding without fail I hold her clothes, her shoes, her pictures Her tiny box of possessions But I can't hold her nor her dreams. My dear I am sorry I failed you without even thinking about it I shouldn't have let you go I shouldn't have been convinced that you were safe But I trusted blood over my instinct And now all I have left of you is your grave.
