Most people have a hard time understanding why would their governments or the elites try to kill them. Here is my conspiracy theory on this because I can't know other's intentions. - Natural resources are depleting, there is not going to be cheap oil anymore - There are nearly 8 billion people in this world - It is okay if petrol runs out, we can transition to green energy is a hoax because there isn't enough resources (lithium, silver etc) in the world to transition 8 billion people to green energy. - When there is no cheap energy, governments are going to have a hard time maintaining the current tight grip on the population. - Once people started to figure out there isn't going to be cheap energy sources and go back to form small communities to trade among themselves and figure out how to sustain themselves the government has no power over them. - Once a big portion of the population becomes self-sufficient and off grid. The government becomes irrelevant to them. - So for governments to stay relevant they have reduce the population to a level that can be controlled relatively easily. It is simply thinning the herd to have more control. Obviously this is not the whole truth but this must be big part of the truth.
