On the face of it, trading should be the easiest thing in the world. There are only two positions - buy and sell. Only two movements - up and down. Even blind guesses should be right half the time. And yet... the only easy thing about it is making a loss. Why is that - emotions getting in the way?

exactly. trending markets: rookies go fomo when its late. then the market goes down and they sell because of fear, again at the worst positions
I would argue there are three positions buy sell and hold - how you handle holding separates those who are successful from those who go broke. Like all practice based activities emotions can only be overcome through experience and development of method.
