I just wanted to share this Sabbath reading I just read. It is a reflection from a priest for today’s readings. “Jesus Prays for Us Today’s Gospel is somewhat obscure, but we can discern the fact that Jesus commits to pray for us—at least He will pray for those who are in the world seeking to spread the Gospel. With this affirmation, we can move forward in faith that Jesus will guide our ministries if we remain open to and trust in Him. Jesus tells us that He is returning to the Father, so it’s up to us to continue the work He has begun. There is no doubt that Jesus wants us to continue to live and proclaim the Gospel as an extension of what He began—this is fundamental to our baptismal calling. Baptism inaugurates us into the life of Christ and if we believe what Paul tells us, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” This is the wonder of the sacrament of baptism that must be built upon through a life of discipleship. Jesus tells us that we need to be open to His Spirit so as to be led according to His will, which is distinct and generally different from the will of the world. Learning how to discern God’s will is important so we do not live our lives in vain and follow empty and misleading philosophies and ideas. Each of us has the right to self-determination in the religious sphere; however, this right comes with the cost of responsibility for our actions. Jesus’ temptation in the desert reminds us to make good choices in life and remain aligned with God’s will. Each day is a challenge to discern what God is asking us to do for the day, as St. Teresa of Calcutta’s prayer says. She was right to pray this daily and probably reflect upon it many times during the day as this is what discipleship is all about—following God’s will, not our own; building His Kingdom, and not our own or any other person’s kingdom.” - Fr.
