Dracula Parrot or Vampire Bird
If as you read it, there is a type of parrot known particularly for its red and black plumage, some call it the Dracula parrot, others the vampire bird, but the truth is that it is one of the most mysterious birds on the planet.
Its scientific name is Psittrichas fulgidus and it lives in the mountainous jungles of New Guinea. It is a large bird, it is around 40 cm long and its weight can reach 800 grams.
It is important to clarify that it is not a bird of prey like the crow, although its beak is quite similar, despite its nickname, unlike its literary vampire counterpart, this animal does not even feed on blood.
The lack of feathers on its head is due to its exquisite diet since the refined animal feeds only on eating certain types of figs that only occur in their natural habitat.
This species is so strange that it is in danger of extinction, it is believed that there are only about 20,000 specimens that are highly valued by poachers to commercialize them on the black market, where their plumage is paid for a lot of money.
