A neighbor was giving Busch beers out to adults trick or treating with their kids last night. It was very nice of them. #Beer

Hash, poached eggs with sea salt and black pepper, bacon, espresso and orange juice. Made breakfast for my wife today. Felt good. It’s been a long time since I cooked anything. (If you’re wondering about the weird shape of the poached eggs, it’s because I used an egg poaching machine). #Food

My daughter asked for a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich with strawberries on it the other day. So I sliced a strawberry thing and put it on top of the jelly before closing the sandwich. She said it was the best sandwich ever. I’m afraid this is all she’ll want going forward.

Had a client ask me to do photos of them in front of a movie theater marquee. I had no idea which movie theater marquee they were talking about until I looked it up online and realized the photo of me with my wife and son hung on the wall directly behind where I was sitting while Skyping with my client. It’s hard to see in this photo because of the glare, but this is the photo. It’s taken by our friend Micala McClain who owns 604 Studio in Greenwood, IN. The photo is from a…
Lando looking back at me through the shades. It’s hard to get his attention when he’s watching the birds outside, but for some reason this morning he was interested in me.
This is a nice, smooth beer. Not a ton of flavor in it, but it’s alright. #Beer
Playing around with Lightroom’s new masking system. Here I edited the photo to make the clients look the way I wanted but then used the mask feature and the subject select function to select just my clients to raise the shadows on them a bit so their eyes wouldn’t look so dark. Then I duplicated that mask and inverted it so it’s select everything but my subject and made the background a little darker and bumped the saturation up a little bit so the trees would look a little…

Took the kids to the park and flew the drone with them. We flew the drone right around sunset. It was gorgeous.
Let my daughter lane the drone and then used it to take a photo on the ground… she was very scared when it was in the air so this was the compromise. #Parenting
Looking down on the forest below. Some trees are already leafless while some just started to change colors. #Photography
Lando loves this chair. He jumps up on it and watches the birds out the window. He does this every morning.
Is it a large pond or a small lake? Drone was at 394 ft. to get this photo of the water at Strawtown Koteewi Park in Noblesville… and quite a ways back.
Droning With The Kids The other day as the light was slowly fading I realized it’d been a while since the last time I had flown the drone. I really wanted to get up in the air to capture the fall colors as the leaves change color on the trees in Indiana. So I packed my stuff up and was about to leave the house when I remembered my son saying he loved flying the drone with me, so I asked him and my daughter to come with me. We made the short trip to Strawtown Koteewi Park and…
Took the kids to a park the other day and let them fly the drone at sunset. Just the 10-year-old and the 5-year-old. The newborn stayed home. I shared some photos and write a little shot the experience online (links below). In summary though, it was a lot of fun and the kids were really happy afterward. https://www.publish0x.com/photo-hangout/droning-with-the-kids-xznzxzv https://read.cash/@stevenvanelk/droning-with-the-kids-f2503480 #Publish0X
Looking through some night shots that I've done recently for clients at their weddings. Taking the couple out to do some photos at night with off camera flash is one of my favorite things on a wedding day... or sometimes staying in if it's too cold outside. #Weddings
Haven’t had time to edit this yet, but I’m culling the photos from a wedding I shot and I really like this one.
4 days into a beer advent calendar. We’re starting it in November instead of on December 1st because several of our friends did it last year and said by the time they got to the beers they were skunked. So, no point in wasting good beer by waiting. We got a wine advent calendar too and that will be something we save for December. #Beer
Just saw a bald eagle hanging out in someone’s front yard. That’s pretty cool.
She’s fairly content most of the time, and always adorable. So blessed by this sweet girl bring in my life. #Parenting
River, fields, and footpaths.
I really love flying the drone in fall. It’s gorgeous in Indiana. #Photography
Pedestrian bridge over the White River.
Where the trees meet the field.
Lando usually sits here and watches the birds but today he’s watching me work on my computer instead. #Pets
Had some family photos taken the other day by our friend Sweet Caroline Photography. Loved this one of the kids. #Parenting
And the drone has landed while both kids watched. At least I got them to smile for this photo.
Tried these two beers last night. The deeper I get into this Aldi advent calendar that I was warned would go bad before December, the more I feel like it’s pushing me to try beers I would never but at the store because their labels don’t have interesting designs on them. Didn’t realize how much label design plays in my decision making choices with beer. #Beer
Laying out the details on a suede cloth to capture for the wedding day. This was from a few years ago now, but it was one of the first times that I felt like I was getting the hang of these sorts of shoots. #Weddings

Check it out! Went for a hike today and my son stole my camera and started taking pictures. He was having so much fun shooting photos of people walking and stuff. It was really cool to see him get so excited and work so hard. Here’s a photo of him taking a photo of my wife and the baby hiking. He got mad at me for having my phone out, but it was worth it to capture this photo of him.
Taking some photos of the kids playing at a park. They chose to model like this together.
Here’s a panoramic shot I did of the Scottish Rite in downtown Indianapolis. It’s a beautiful building and a great venue for events. #Photography
Made some etouffee yesterday. Made it with chicken and andouille sausage for the protein. I love the flavor of andouille sausage. #cooking
Kissing in the rain. This engagement shoot was rescheduled several times due to weather and then on the day we finally did the shoot it still rained… and the couple were okay with it. They went out and danced and hugged and kissed in the rain for photos. It was awesome. #weddings
Here's all the food I made for #Thanksgiving today. My wife helped with everything but the turkey. The turkey was all mine this year. #cooking

My cat, Lando, sitting on top of a chair and watching the birds in the tree out the window. He loves doing this. #pets #cats
Lights reflected on the surface of the water. Took a wait at night the other day and saw this.
Sometimes I wonder if Lando isn't secretly a model. It's the way he poses for pictures in good light that makes me idly wonder about this.
