Solo's weekly picks: Construction and Engineering I really appreciate seeing others work, especially if its something Ive done myself. When I watch others work I find new ways of building and designing the next project. There are many DIYers and builders on Hive, and wanted to share a few posts from them today. Here are five content creators that caught my eye. Paying The Rent // on the roof by @freedompoint https://peakd.com/@freedompoint…

Mason Bees hatching from their cocoons - Video Lapse In the beginning of the video, Bees can be seen crawling around the trays I laid the cocoons in. I set my camera up and recorded all day using video lapse. By half way through the video I did not see any others emerge but there were a few in the beginning of the video that can be seen. By the end of the day we were losing light and I cut the footage at that point. That gave me about two minutes of video lapse footage. When…

Forza Horizon 4 Gameplay 06-03 I head off towards the Great Ridge. A stunt location where the more distance traveled in the air the more points I get. I start following the directed path but quickly cut through some farm land on my way to the location. Its winter time so the roads are pretty slippery and I crash a few times. Still getting used to snow driving, I think this is the first game that thats come into play for me. I challenge a car on my way to the location and…

THUG Pro Gameplay 06-04 The Tony Hawks Pro Skater series has been a big part of my gaming life. Ive invested many hours into playing the game, I was glad to find this mod called THUG Pro. Its a community made mod that brings in all the maps from the Tony Hawks Pro Skater series into one game that can be ran on PC. I try out free skate, but before I started I edited my skater for awhile and eventually just settled on a premade skater. I went with the clown and picked Roswell…

Spring Garden Update: Strawberries Making use of old food containers I put holes in them and then placed Strawberry plants and added dirt and mulch. Within a few days leaves and flowers were forming from all the sides and on top. I made this video a month or so ago and since then its produced many Strawberries. I took rope and using knot work I made a harness for each of the containers. Watching videos online I saw how others hang pots with ropes and copied their technique.…

1990s Screensavers: Nocturnes This module from After Dark features a dark screen making it appear night time. Over a period of time eyes start to appear and look back in the darkness. You can select them to be colored or not to be. And also the density can be changed making the amount of eyes looking in the darkness more sparse or dense. In this screensaver there is no audio, I added some music in the background to make uploading possible. The video is about fifteen minutes…

Deus Ex Gameplay 06-05 Reaching the MJ12 Lab in Hong Kong, I search the facility and find my objective. I pass many guards and they are all friendly at the moment. Though im my experience playing in the past ill have to battle them on the way out. I find a terminal but cannot hack it. But did find some ammo and other goodies in the guards restroom. There was also a case I unlocked and grabbed what was inside. If I used a grenade to open them I would probably piss off the…

Lovely Logic makes: Icebox Cheesecake Using goat cheese, we make a oven free cheesecake. Most cheesecakes use cream cheese. But we like to goat cheese as it has an amazing texture and we will be using that for this recipe. Using almond meal, coconut butter, salt and lemon essential oil. Extracts can be used too. Though most essential oils are not food grade, so make sure you find one thats not meant for scents and for cooking instead. We made two kinds of cheese cake in this…

Got myself some suspenders Ive been wearing belts most of my life but curious about suspenders. I decided to buy some and give them a try. I quickly got to liking them as they do not squeeze my mid section like belts do. Hah, for the longest time one of the reasons I did not buy any suspenders as I think only people out in the country wore them. Its pretty silly now I think about, I saw many people wearing them in the city. But now im living in Georgia I no longer have that…

Spring Garden Update: Asparagus Never thought id be an Asparagus farmer, but I sure love the stuff so just made sense to grow my own. I usually eat at least two to three bundles of it a week and having my own would be a great value and get a fresher food source than whats found at the markets. I planted about sixty clusters, about twenty so far have emerged at the time of this video and started growing a stalk and leaves. They can kind of hard to see in the video as they are…

High Speed Gardening - Video Lapse I had a few clips I made during the early spring that I did not use in any other videos. So I put them together to make a short video lapse compilation. I put a random audio track in the video as its usually without sound when doing video lapse. I start off the video going through old Mason Bee cocoons. Clearing out the ones that the bees have already hatched from. A few have not hatched yet so I place those back in the 3D printed…

A closer look at Solitary Bees Part 1 I have shared alot of footage of my Mason Bees, a kind of Solitary Bee. Mostly its pictures and video from my webcam. Which is nice to see the whole of their homes, but not so much up close. During the few months while these Bees were out and from February through April I brought my tripod outside along with my Lumix GH3 camera, I put my Olympus MSC ED M. 60mm Macro lens on it and just let it record them working hard at their homes. In…

Spring Garden Updates: Apple trees In the last few years I have been adding Apples to my diet, so figured it would be a great idea to try to grow some as well. I live in an area of Georgia that gets enough frost hours for the trees to form fruit. Its very much needed for these trees to experience between 500-1000 chill hours below 45 F (7 C). My Cherry trees also require these cold days to produce fruit. And with the amount of rain we get regularly I think they should be a…

A closer look at Solitary Bees Part 2 We see more of the bee house I constructed, and a little over half way through the video at the 10:15 mark I change the angle and get a view into the bee homes straight on. I usually set up the camera to the left or the right, so I am not in the flight path of the Bees. It will cause them they queue up outside, like airplanes in a holding pattern over an airport...haha I dont mind doing this for a short amount of time but long term it…

Mario Party 10 Gameplay 06-12 I went with Yoshi and she chose Rosalina. Last time we played during one of the mini games Lovely Logic played as Toad and could not reach coins in the game being too short. So she went with a taller player this time around. We chose Haunted Trail for our map and got to deciding order. Lovely Logic said she would rather have the previous method for choosing deciding order using dice blocks. As with Mario 10 Gameplay its more random, where with…

Spring Garden Update: Roses I planted a bunch of bushes a few years back, though not all survived. Maybe it was due to me treating some with bad home made pesticides. I used vegetable oil and really pissed off some of the plants, more than the bugs it would seem.. haha But a few of them have stuck around and I really enjoy seeing them grow. The one in the cover is the largest of the bunch. Its seated in a whole where a basketball post used to be. So there was a large hole in…

Walter stalking my puffy microphone One of my recent purchases for camera was an external microphone. It has a wind sock on it and is furry looking. Seeing other animals react to them I had an idea of what Walter the cat would do when he saw it. Though I was not ready and jerked my camera back as he ran through the tube.. Hah The microphone I got is a Shure lenshopper vp83. Ive really been enjoying the sound quality it picks up and doing blogging with it makes my voice more…

Spring Garden Update: Raspberry Bushes One of the first plants I started growing when I moved to this property were Raspberry bushes. I started with one container of brambles and over ten years ive divided them into about twenty feet of bushes along a wall. Every year I could stick a shovel between a large cluster and undig half of it. And move it a few feet to the left or the right to grow more of them in a less dense method than just letting the clusters grow. They…

A closer look at Solitary Bees Part 3: A fight breaks out This video starts with a Hawk call in the background with various other bird calls going on around us, the Bees can be heard buzzing in the background. All is calm at the moment. Two Orange-vented Mason Bees enter the bee boards. Distinguishable by their fuzzy butt, the bright yellow lets me know they are one of the two kinds that visit the homes I make. At the one minute mark, a second Bee enters an already occupied…

Solo's weekly picks: Forests When I get the opportunity to walk through a forest I try to never pass it down. Its great to see others on the Hive blockchain making use of nature trails near where they live. Some of these trails are for recreation, others are a way of life and connect towns together. Today I have some posts to share of forests in the UK, Spain, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Dropping off or picking up? The walk home by @planetauto https://peakd.com/@planetauto…

@solominer

Spring Garden Update: Cherry Trees These trees are really waking up now, leaves coming out and forming small branches. The first one we look at is a Minnie Royal Cherry Tree. Its considered a low chill hour tree only needing a fraction of chill hours as the others I have on my property. It also flowers much earlier than the other Cherries. They are grown in Southern California and other southern areas, and its part of a different pollination group which means it needs a very…

Forza Horizon 4 gameplay 06-18 I jump in my Baja bug and the seasons change from fall to winter, making the roads icy and covered in snow. Ill need to adjust my driving style for these conditions, pretty cool that seasons with this game. Once the maps loads I find myself the next event and go across the map to the Beach view circuit. Playing previous Forza games it was pure racing, driving on city roads from and to events has a special feeling added to this game. It reminds…

Spring Garden Update: Bush Cherries In my previous garden update post I showed off four Cherry trees, in this video we look at a smaller version of Cherry called "Bush Cherries". These plants reach a height of around six feet and bush out the sides real good. The Bush Cherries are smaller than tree cherries but have a higher sugar content in their compact size. The cultivars I purchased are called Hansen Bush Cherries. I got them from Starkbros online, they are out of stock…

1990s Screensavers: Flying Toasters (With song) The flying toasters is probably the best known module for After Dark, this module also has a song that plays along with captions below on the lyrics. Chrome toasters with wings fly by. Along with toasted bread, some having jam on them and others being bare. Lyrics: "Flying out of the sun The smell of toast is in the air. When there's a job to be done The Flying toasters will be there. And it's flap! Flap! Flap! Now help is on…

A closer look at Solitary Bees Part 4: Completing the homes The Bees fill these holes from the back all the way forward to the front. In the cover animation, a female can be seen laying larva at the end of the tunnel. Her face and body covered in pollen as she works hard during peak season to build as many homes as possible. Probably the final cell before she caps off the end with mud and moves onto a new hole. This can be seen at 1:05 and again at 9:38 She will repeat this…

Spring Garden Update: Oregon Grapes When I moved to Georgia I would see this evergreen plant in the forests and sometimes in peoples yards. I did not learn till years later that the berries it produces are edible. A follower of mine @goat-girlz mentioned they are indeed edible and can be used to make a jam. She goes on saying they can be found throughout the forests in Oregon, probably where it got its name. Georgia shares similar climates to Oregon in some areas so makes…

Desert Combat Gameplay 06-23 The Bradley Fighting Vehicle is one of my favorite light armor vehicles in DC. It has an explosive round and rapid fires making it quite devastating. I start off using that vehicle to deny enemy infantry the ability to advance onto my secured post on the map. Though they have RPGs and those can take out my Bradley if I let them get too close. Playing with 255 bots makes the scale of this battle much bigger. Seeing hundreds of troops follow me as…

A closer look at Solitary Bees Part 5: Adding the pollen collector In this segment I add another bee house to the stack, this one specializes in collecting pollen. It has screens inside that the bees must pass through and when they do it rakes off a little bit of pollen. This pollen drops down into a tray I can collect and then eat if I wanted. Pollen consumption is a good way to help build a resistance to seasonal allergies I find. Eating local honey and pollen seems to…

@solominer

Spring Garden Update: Goji plants I bought these little plants a few months ago, not all of them have survived but a couple of them are still hanging on. Hoping they will produce new leaves soon and get better. One of them got munched on by bugs real bad and did not come back, and the other is starting to have its leaves turn yellow. Seems they were a little too small or just not meant for this climate. Since the making of this video two of them are still alive out of the…

Desert Combat Gameplay 06-29 Once we had all the capture points secured we moved onto the HQ. You cannot capture it but you can lay down so much fire that they will not be able to easily retake any other capture points. Using a Hind that I stole from their base I lay down rockets on the enemy ground troops. Moving my way around the base I attack at two points where they tend to leave the base from. I fire rockets up to the point where the troops are so I dont cause friendly…
