We, a consortium of node implementations, infrastructure providers, services, engineers, and stakeholders, have collaborated extensively to reach our shared goal of stabilizing block confirmation times. We will deploy the aserti3-2d difficulty adjustment algorithm (ASERT DAA) on Bitcoin Cash (BCH) on November 15th, 2020, as designed by Mark Lundeberg and implemented by Jonathan Toomim alongside other accredited contributors of the ecosystem.

The aserti3-2d DAA is simple to implement, well-tested, and extensively simulated. It incentivizes consistent mining, achieves stability for transaction confirmations with low-variance 10 minute block targets, and is resistant to future drift.

This upgrade is the next step on the path of scaling Bitcoin Cash to be global, censorship-resistant, peer-to-peer electronic cash.

ASERT DAA is clearly the superior technical option, ABC's refusal to implement is a symptom of a greater problem in governance. A single implementation should never be allowed to dictate BCH consensus rules.

You guys are well commended for your efforts. IMO, the ASERT DAA will only be useful and add value to BCH community provided it can excellently outperform the status quo cw-144 DAA. Going by the statement credited to Jonathan Toomim in his last article at read.cash: "Our current DAA, cw-144, was added in November 2017, and has done a good job of keeping blocks coming at very close to 600 seconds per block without drift. ASERT would do as well if not better. Grasberg would cause blocks to take 675 seconds until 2027". I don't think we need either ASERT DAA or Grasberg DAA for now as they have no evidence to do better than the status quo cw-144 DAA. Both Bitcoin ABC and ASERT teams should focus a better and innovative technical solutions to the current technical issues being faced by BCH. Thanks.

The problem are daily oscillations, which penalize steady miners and screw up user experience with confirmation times. That's why current DAA needs fixing ASAP.

Ya! I have just found the advantages of ASERT DAA over the status quo cw-144. I hereby totally support jtoomim and his team to push forward the ASERT DAA. "We must forget Grasberg DAA in this scene". Thanks.

Actually, if you look back further to the other articles by jtoomim, you will find that ASERT is upwards of 20 times better at estimating the current hashrate and improves significantly on the current CW-144 DAA in many regards: It doesn't accumulate drift, it minimizes oscillations and it more accurately achieves the targetted 1 block per 10 minute schedule.

With this edge credited to ASERT DAA, I hereby vote 100% support for jtoomim and his team to forge ahead and implement ASERT DAA as scheduled. Thanks!

I like this information very much. The idea of updating Bitcoin Cash in November is actually great. I want bitcoin cash to always be on top. Because it is a very good cryptocurrency. This bitcoin cash is being widely used at the present time. And I have always suggested that everyone use it. It is a very good currency. And like me, many are moving forward and using bitcoin cash. They all use this job and say that it is a very good currency. Some time ago we celebrated Bitcoin Cash birthday. It was a very exciting subject. And I was watching the live video of Bitcoin Cash. Was very remarkable.I hope that the Bitcoin Cash Upgrade System will improve a lot in November. I enjoyed reading this article and learned a lot about Bitcoin Cash. Whelp, I've finally been given a reason to join this community.

From the address bitcoincash:qpmjlwjdl6xqfqqqehx95wft7mys2lfz2ux8jldgw8 (the oldest transacted address in my current wallet), here is the signature of the sha256sum (which I have verified to match up with the message above so long as you use Linux line breaks as opposed to Windows line breaks):

IPk/LK6F3faO/3LnEJk5mzLmVaAT44QuRoUZXfww4kc5SpuvjV/XHY/Gjjk52X7i++M+ZdfbiusCCHXjmxXRU6o=

Of course, maybe a new statement needs drafted anyway now that Amaury has finally shown himself to be no different than Theymos. Also there's the fact that this signature doesn't really prove anything since I haven't previously signed anything else, but maybe when it was transacted against provides some value.

No worries. What I mean is some connection between your address and your identity. It's basically enough to have it connected to your account here, so no worries.

Also, this document served it's purpose very very well. I think the ecosystem did an amazing job of coming together as stakeholders to make clear what is going to happen in November. That message is still very clear even though ABC has gone on another wild tangent.

Another split would be very unhelpful to the community, but i do understand the need to make a statement before the 15th. I hope the ABC team takes this into consideration when deciding their position. I do support the implementation of aserti3-2d, because delaying blocks seems very counterintuitive to the goals of BCH as a payment system as opposed to a store of value.

I thought Vin was crazy when the made his fork announcement. It seems that he was right after all. Another fork.

Great! Let's destroy BCH!

From what I remember, the prediction was that BCHN would fork, and the motivation was because they removed the "poison pill" code.

If I remember correctly, then that prediction does not match this statement - this is not BCHN and the motivation is not right either.

It's not very difficult to make a vague prediction like this, but it's very hard to make an accurate one.

Nobody will thank any of the developers if there is a contentious hard fork resulting in two competing currencies - we have been there once already. All of you including the benevolent dictator need to sit down together to thrash out an agreement where nobody loses face. While I know next to nothing and the following is probably rubbish, why is it not possible to maintain the intention of Satoshi Nakamoto by eeking out the BCH reward until 2140 when the last Satoshi would be mined ? - would that maintain the block reward time better ?

I think that we also must recognise that Amaury was the force behind BCH and that he gave way on the Infrastructure Funding Proposal

You have some significant misunderstanding about the history and current situation in Bitcoin Cash. Perhaps if you join a higher bandwidth discussion form like telegram or slack it would be easier to talk about it. At a minimum, I can state that most players in the ecosystem have absolutely bent over backward to compromise and work with ABC and found zero compromise in return.

Thank you, but my core statement that nobody will thank any of the developers if there is a contentious hard fork resulting in two chains is probably true. I don't know if the devs ever get together in person, but I watched the entire Bitcoin Cash DAA Development meeting #2 and while it was well moderated (and others before it), it is clear that there are entrenched positions which won't be resolved in this manner and may just make matters worse.

I'm sure that I do have plenty of misunderstandings, but surely it is up to the miners to agree as to what is to be done. Do they want this issue resolved when they will no longer be able to game the DAA ?

I see also that there is BCH DEVCON 3 in early September and it appears that Chris Troutner will be there along with Amaury Séchet. Obviously I can understand the frustration of developers whose work isn't being adopted and I am not myself in favour of 11 minute blocks for the next 6 years but nothing would be worse than for there to be two competing versions of BCH from the point of view of adoption.

I think that there is also a problem as Amaury's English is not easy to understand sometimes.

This is just my opinion, and thank you for taking the time to reply to it rather than than voting me down. I have had the privilege to meet many of the big names of Bitcoin (Roger Ver, Stefan Rust and even Craig Wright) at London BCH meetups. Prior to this I did some mining in 2014, but now, in my 70's I'm too old to write code. I remain grateful to all the developers for their contributions.

No worries. Thanks for explaining. And yes, you are seeing a significantly skewed view of what is actually going on. A whole ecosystem having such a strong opinion and unity, disrupting their valuable time to do something like this hopefully gives you some evidence on what that skew is.

Tell me more about how he gave way on the IFP. This comment didn't age well at all, did it?

Well, He didn't get his way, that's for sure, so maybe he thinks that people are trying to wrest control away from him ? You need to see it from his perspective too.

People said the same kind of thing about Luke-Jr. Didn't change my opinions about his actions, either.

I now, understand your remark about the IFP. Luke-Jr was an idiot or an arse who deliberately sabotaged Bitcoin. That's not the case for Amaury - who stepped in when someone was needed to salvage Bitcoin. We need less conflict in BCH. The DAA dispute is now resolved, but funding for BCH development is still an issue.

Theymos did good things before he did bad things. Luke-Jr did good things before he did bad things. Greg did good things before he did bad things. Amaury did good things before he did bad things. None of these people stopped with one bad thing or ever admitted that any of the bad things were bad.

Honestly, I switched from the original bitcoin reference client to Bitcoin XT before it was obvious that Blockstream was bad simply because I believe a reference client should be just that, a reference. Then the reference client was rebranded to Core and alternative clients were disingenuously called altcoins. At this point, it was obvious there was evil afoot, but no money trail yet. Separate from that, I then switched from Bitcoin XT to Bitcoin Unlimited when I believed (perhaps mistakenly tricked by Blockstream fud) that Mike Hearn was doing bad things. When Blockstream pulled the Segwit2x crap, I started using the BCH version of Bitcoin Unlimited (now BCH Unlimited). I haven't switched from that in spite of several claims against them that all appear to have been fud, but I also wasn't vocal about my opinion that treating ABC as both a reference and production client simultaneously was begging history to repeat. I stayed quiet again when the previous contentious upgrade was thrown around last year (I've already forgotten the details, but I'm not talking about the obvious "I am Satoshi" sham known as BSV), hopeful that Amaury was misguided and would correct, as he did (without admitting wrongdoing). When the IFP came up, it really started to look like Blockstream/Core all over again and I still stayed quiet, hoping he'd correct again, and he did. When DAA came up, it was blatantly obvious that nothing was going to change, and I was ready to get vocal, but before I could, he showed his true colors and pulled this "you will pay me" stunt. Let's be honest, that money is easy to follow, and if FOSS never needed big money for development (all big money thrown at FOSS came from companies needing the FOSS), then decentralized currency doesn't, either.
