Why We Love Dogs

We love dogs for many reasons. But we really love them, because unlike us humans, they are acutely present at all times.  Dogs are constantly at attention and respond to our every move. Dogs constantly sniff, scratch, crawl, and pace. They protect. They bark. They yawn. They greet. They run. They jump. They sit. They lie. They play dead. They play catch. They play. Period.  Each time you look at a dog, it gives you an immediate response and instant communication. Dogs give us instant joy and unwavering love. They don’t ask for much. Except for food and love, dogs don’t ask for anything. They’re by your side day and night. And when you’re tired, they fall asleep right beside you. So why do we love dogs? Because dogs don’t compare you with others. Dogs, cats, pigs, spiders, alligators, and indeed any animal affirms life.  Dogs don’t ask you what your job is or how much you’ve made in a year. Instead, dogs look you in the eye and with just one look they heal you with every fiber of their soul.   Dogs live in the present moment, and they want you to do the same.
