Driving during winter and summer has differences. Let us try to compare and contrast the following and see the similarities and differences. Winter is the coldest season of the year and it is part of the main season found in the temperate zones. It is known as the dangerous season because a lot of people were affected by this season and accidents may happen anytime especially in driving a slippery road. Summer on the other hand is one of the seasons of a year which is the warmest. It falls between the seasons of spring and autumn. Summer is the time to dip your toes into a swimming pool, lounge around at a picnic and let your worries fall by the wayside. But don’t let the long, lazy days of summer cause you to become too complacent behind the wheel. There are things to consider in driving either during summer or winter.

A very important matter to consider when you are driving is the condition of your car. There’s no specific tire to use if it is for summer or winter. There’s a tire that will suit for the entire season of the year. You just have to be more careful when driving during winter because of the road condition. Black is very common. Black ice is probably the most dangerous thing to look for when wintertime starts. Oh wait, you can't even look for it, it's invisible. When the ground is incredibly cold, and it rains, the rain hits the ground and freezes instantly creating a sheet of ice. It is called this because it is clear and all you see is the black road, so it looks like black ice. This ice is very dangerous because even though you can't see it, you can slide and slip on it. When wintertime starts, people should be extra careful with driving especially because they can't see it. They should drive slow or not even drive at all during those cold months. It is safe to say that I have had an encounter with this deadly ice, and it was no fun at all. Therefore, people who think that it is okay to drive in the winter months without caution should drive slower and safer or perhaps not even at all, to avoid getting in a car crash or even killed.

On the other hand, summer roads are busier than winter roads. Everyone’s looking to get out on the road and enjoy the summer weather. This means increased traffic on roads everywhere, including tourists and out-of-towners. Taking extra precautions to drive safely will help you to get through the summer season incident free. With increased traffic volume, safe driving practices become particularly important. Additionally, watch for cyclists and motorcyclists on the roadways. Though they’ve likely had their bikes parked all winter, fair weather will bring them out on the roads, and these smaller, sometimes faster moving vehicles are just one more thing to look out for. As a motorist, you may not be expecting them, and their skills could be rusty from a winter of not riding – so be alert and avoid an accident.

Unlike other seasons where rush hour tends to be the busiest time on the roads, summer sees an increase in traffic on weekends, as people head to the beach, the cottage, or other popular leisure destinations. In many cases these drivers pose more of a risk, as they’re excited about their destination, and often have more cargo and more passengers than a regular commuter. Common sense measures to stay safe on crowded roadways include staying calm and being courteous to other drivers while you’re behind the wheel. Another thing usually happen during summer driving is hitting an animal such as deer, moose or other wild animals. They usually cross the streets or roads to look for a comfortable place for them to stay during the warm weather.

The following are some tips in driving during summer season:

  • To avoid hitting animals, drivers need to understand the type of area they are driving in and be aware of any signs or markings indicating the possibility of animal crossings.

  • Obey speed limit: many people tend to speed through residential areas where kids play on the street. Even a 10-kilometer over the speed limit can affect how quickly you can stop your car if a child runs out in front of it. Always drive slowly, take your time at stop signs and stay on focus when driving on residential areas especially during summer.

  • Stay patient and calm; the best advice for any driver for any driver to heed is to stay cool and calm when behind the wheel. Give yourself a plenty of time to reach your destination, be courteous to other drivers and pedestrians, and don’t get angry over small stuff. If you lose your temper behind the wheel, you could lose of the vehicle and cause an accident, which, in turn, could result in injury or damage to vehicles or property- all cause for higher insurance rates at the end of the day.

The following are some tips in driving during winter season:

  • Make sure your brakes, windshields, wipers, defrosters, heater and exhaust system are in top condition.

  • Slow down; A highway speed of 55 miles an hour may be safe in a wet road. Snow an d ice makes make stopping distances much longer, so keep your seatbelt buckled and leave more distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead. Be more observant, visibility is often limited in winter by weather conditions. Slow down and watch for other vehicles and for snow equipment.

  • Stay with your vehicle and try to conserve fuel while maintaining warmth. Be alert to any possible problems.

There are a lot of ways on how to compare and contrast driving with these seasons and tips in driving but one thing is for sure DRIVE SAFELY.
