Food Journal: Deli Express, you're out! OMG yesterday! What a day! The day began with a downside: NO INTERNET! Of course, we live in a day of age that without internet life basically stops and we are forcefully thrown back to the stone age. For me was especially stressful because, the modem we use is not ours, so, not knowing what was wrong I immediately thought that the modem was dead. Thankfully that was not the case, it was just the internet provider who lately has been wanting to set a new record of mediocrity, maybe they want a gold medal from Tokio 2020, who knows... They thing is that without internet I couldn't write but it allowed me the sufficient time to take care of other stuff I had postponed for sometime, not because lack of time, just because I didn't want to do them. **Hey! This is an article about food, I just want to give you some context first LOL** Ok, let's continue. As I was saying, I took care of things I had postponed, to be franc, I had to clean the house in search of some papers for a story that's being written about my old job in the past. So, between dust and humidity, I got a terrible allergy but found pretty interesting stuff and throw away much much more stuff that was taking up to much space and have no use for us and nobody else for that matter. In the mean time my sister got a call from her friends and afterwards they came and picked her up, about 6pm. I took a shower, an antihistamine and got ready to make dinner for me and my mom. Later we got a visit from our net door neighbour and sat and chat. During our conversation my sister called to say that she would be delayed but said where they were: **Deli Express.** Finally! I got to the main story hahahaha Dely Express is a fast food restaurant that started about 5 years ago three blocks away from my house. Owned by a beloved neighbour, they started with a little stand in a corner and now has a proper local where the customers can actually go to enjoy their meals.

I tried to go there every weekend to taste his delicious burgers because they stood out from the others. He used fresh ingredients every day, including the meat, wich was seasoned by him personally with only salt and pepper, as it should be. Other restaurants use pre-made patties that melt away once they hit the grill, and they charge you for the burges as if they where swirling with meat when in fact it's just bread, veggies and ketchup, but with Deli Express, it was guaranteed 100% satisfaction. So, when my sister told me that she and her friend where there I was just so envious because I've been wanting to go back there for a long time. She then called again to ask me if I wanted something, and as I was aware that she didn't had money to buy anything I assumed that one of the girls asked her to ask me that. They're all very fond of me since they were little girls. So, my reply was **"Whatever you want to bring me is fine"**, thinking that maybe they would buy me some fries, and since I had already ate dinner, I wasn't hungry or anything. They bought me this:

This is a **Double Deli**, and it has: two 150gr patties, sliced ham, bacon, american cheese, saucen and veggies, plus a small ration of french fries and garlic sauce. Of course I couldn't reject such a gift and with a heavy heart I accepted it, and my sister left again happy that I was astonished, and later called me to say that the gift was from all of them to celebrate that I finally left my old job. Well, I decided to dig in, and as my mom was eating the fries I was taking care of the burget itself. When I unwrapped it I almost fainted, it looked just as I remembered, fresh meat, fresh everything and the smell was glorious. The first bit was all cheese, the I got to taste the meat and the rest. From here it all went south.

First, since I had already eaten, I had a hard time finishing it, but not only that, the mixture of flavours was a little to overwhelming for me. The cheese was a very strong cheddar and took over the whole burger; the patties were odd; they tasted like they had to many bread crumbs and to much **adobo (a traditional seasoning from here that has cumin, garlic, salt, pepper and oregano and other stuff),** not the classic salt and pepper he used at first, and the veggies, specially the lettuce were burned and old. I still ate it, I mean, burgers are one of my favorite foods, and it was a gift so, like they say over here "***On a gifted horse you do not look at his tusk" so,*** gratefull and all I managed to finish it the entire thing and my mom took care of the fries. Then the horror: I couldn't sleep well, I felt like I drank too much, I got up several times to drink cold water because the the thirst was enormous and my stomach was was at war with me LOL. Today I still feel like I was partying all night long and that got me thinking: **"Was it the burger?"** Probably yes, I have had hamburgers this year, but homemade and simpler, with whole vegetables and without much seasoning. For me, a good hamburger has to have the meat as the protagonist, and you can season it, yes, but without taking the role away from the meat. Here in Venezuela we put avocado and a fried egg too, but always looking for the flavors to complement each other, not to fight between each other, like the one I ate last night. **So, for that reason alone, for me Deli Express, you're out!** *And you? How do you like your burgers? Tell me in the comments section!* *Thank's for reading me!* ✨✨*Blessings*✨✨
