My home town has always punched well above it's weight when it comes to history and heritage my fellow noisers. I've already brought the Cathedral and Castle to your attention as well as the Magna Carta (and updated Charter of the Forest 1217), and now I bring you another little known fact. For better or worse the fighting tank was invented in Lincoln with the first prototype being developed in 1915 before finding its way onto the Battlefields of 2016. It was slow, cumbersome and not particularly reliable, but it was a game changer. Also it was thanks to the work in Lincoln that they became known as tanks because they were a top secret project and even the engineers were told that they were working on water tanks - hence the name.
