Luckily Synology lets you choose which format you want to use. https://kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/tutorial/Which_file_system_should_I_use_to_create_a_volume They call out that ext4 can be more performant, but that btfs has better recovery options. Plus Synology doesn't use btfs raid like features. Overall both QNAP and Synology have amazing products.
