Trip to Portugal - Farolim de Felgueiras - Porto
Today, Sunday, I decided to take a walk along the marginal of Porto. I have avoided closed places and given preference to open places. At this time I have undoubtedly given preference to walking through nature and the beach as we are close to summer.
Today the walk was near the Felgueiras Lighthouse, this lighthouse has magnificent photos in the winter season, the waves covering the lighthouse!
The Felgueiras lighthouse, is a neoclassical hexagonal lighthouse in granite masonry, ten meters high, dating from 1886. It has a red balcony and lantern and a small annex building with plastered walls painted in white
The construction of the Felgueiras lighthouse is dated 1790. The designation “Molhe de Felgueiras” was attributed to it because it was built towards the stone of Felgueiras, to the West. It was modernized in 1945 and automated in 1979, being controlled remotely from the Leça lighthouse. In the 90s it underwent conservation works. Before it was deactivated in 2009, the beacon had a range of 9 nautical miles, emitting red lightning every 5 seconds. It currently maintains only the audible signal. Only the surrounding area, ie the jetty, is open to the public.
This area is dangerous in the winter season as the waves can pass over the lighthouse, just to imagine the height that the waves can reach. As we are in a summer time and the sea was very calm I went to enjoy the scenery near the lighthouse!
Trip to Portugal - Lavadores Beach - Vila Nova de Gaia
Lavadores Beach is considered a semi-urban beach, which is confirmed by the proximity to the buildings that were built nearby.
With an immense stretch of sand, holidaymakers find good infrastructure, such as well-organized and colorful terraces, changing rooms and awning hire.
Lavadores Beach, in the parish of Canidelo, in Vila Nova de Gaia, is a very rich place, not only because of the history of its people dedicated to fishing and the drought of cod, but also because of the geological heritage in the open air that must and deserves to be visited.
The landscape has changed drastically over the past few years, with a renovated waterfront, with a walkway by the sea, in a place where former cod ships arrived from the Great Banks of Newfoundland. Fishing for cod gave sustenance to the people of this place, especially women who took care of its preparation on land, first to wash it and then to dry it.
This granitic massif starts in Cabedelo and extends south to bead of “Pedras Amarelas”, in Lavadores, a total of 25km long and four km wide, being composed of magmatic rocks, that is, rocks formed at from the magma from the interior of the Earth which, over time, ascended to regions close to the surface, cooling and solidifying.
Walking on Lavadores Beach you can see different granitic forms that resulted from the phenomena of weathering and erosion, in particular those resulting from the action of sea water and coastal winds.
In this place it is possible to see the city of Porto and the City of Matosinhos. Vila Nova de Gaia is very close to these two cities having only to cross the bridge where the Douro River passes.
Trip to Portugal - Barrinha de Esmoriz
It is a trail that embraces the Esmoriz bar, which traces a 40 meter long bridge that would have existed in the middle of the last century, in a nostalgia that beautifies and enhances the landscape.
It has wooden floors, water always close by, two small bridges, a floating pier, and a viewpoint with a bench and views of the bar, the dunes and the sea. It is a gift of nature that the human hand has decided to enhance and enhance with places where, sometimes, the blues of the sky, the ocean and the lagoon merge into one body.
In this circular route of eight kilometers, there is direct access to the beach of Esmoriz, continuity to Espinho and its bathing areas, several entrances or exits depending on the wishes, around a small bar surrounded by reeds that are painted with the colors of the seasons.
A walk with flora and animals, which the books guarantee are rare to find elsewhere, and a bird watch on the way to try to see up close an animal kingdom inhabited by herons or robins. The reed weasel and red crayfish also live in this habitat.
This lagoon area is part of the Natura 2000 Network, despite its ups and downs in environmental terms that the present and the future want to throw behind their backs. It is precisely this circle of water, which maintained a certain discretion, that is now displayed on a walkway that brought to the surface an area that marinated in strange anonymity.
A peculiar area that shares the same water and has two baptisms. On one side they call it the Esmoriz bar, from Ovar, on the other from Paramos lagoon, from the Espinho band. After all, this area in a liquid state has particularities starting with its geographical location: in the middle of two counties, north of Ovar and south of Espinho, separating two territories with water. But what really matters is a whole scenario that a bridge managed to rescue and that the eyes are grateful for.

Trip to Portugal - Couce Valleys
This is my 50 day lockdown! However, I always take advantage at the end of the day to exercise and go for a run through the mountains.
At the bottom of the mountains is the city of Valongo. In this area, unfortunately, there is still a little noise from the city, such as motorcycles. I like to run and listen to nature, birds and the wind in the trees. Renew my spirit.
Most of the trees that you see in the photos are eucalyptus. It is a very beautiful tree but it consumes a lot of soil water, which can be problematic for the mountains.
In this area a few years ago, about 5 to 10 years ago most of the trees were pine. Unfortunately, with the successive fires, they decided to plant eucalyptus because they are born and grow faster and in addition companies use and produce paper.
In these images you can perfectly see the mountain's deforestation, all due to a company in the area that rents the land to the municipal chamber of Valongo and then starts producing paper. Unfortunately, the landscape is like that.
At the top of the mountains on the opposite side of Valongo, you have the possibility to see the city of Porto and also see the sea. This is the highest spot in the Porto area.
Today was a day when I made a new journey that lasted about 2 hours. On this path I had the possibility to run and climb.
If one day you come to visit the city of Porto and you love nature, don't forget that you are close to the city of Valongo, which has a lot of nature, river, mountains.
Valongo is an 11 km drive from the city of Porto. There is also public transport that connects, in which what I think is best is the train. The train journey takes + - 20 minutes but you have a lot of comfort.

Trip to Portugal - Lousã Trevim Mountain
Alto de Trevim, at 1200 meters above sea level, is a special place. On days with good visibility, it is possible to observe places as far away as Serra da Estrela, the Atlantic Ocean, Serra da Gardunha and Marvão.
The ascent from Lousã starts next to Parque Carlos Reis, covering more than 20km through numerous curves and against curves. The floor is in good condition and the climb is smooth. In almost all the extension, this climb is framed by a lot of vegetation.
In this area of Trevim, as you can see from the photos, there are several wind farms, as it is a very high area and because of that it is an excellent location for the production of wind energy.
Portugal has a strong commitment to renewable energies in order to be more sustainable. Last year we already had a whole month to be powered only by wind energy. Portugal wants to be more sustainable and also use cleaner energy.
Whoever is close to this wind farm is really able to get a sense of its size. The sound of the rotating propellers is also magnificent. In Portugal in many of the mountains these wind farms are visible.
When we see a wind turbine on television or in a magazine, we often do not realize its real size. An wind turbine, in which its technical name of a turbine complete with the shaft, the blades, the rotor and the generator, occupies an average area of a football field, that is, almost 1 hectare, which is 10,000 square meters.
Currently we can produce shovels of 75 meters in length, in occupied areas of 18600 square meters, that is practically 2 to 2.5 football fields.
The purpose of this trip to Trevim was to see a swing on the top of the mountain with this magnificent view. However, when we arrived at the site, there was no swing. We will be waiting for you to bring the swing again to bring you new photos of this place, but now with a swing.
The trip to this place is well worth it, but get ready and take a jacket because in this place it is so windy that it almost freezes your face. But take advantage and come and enjoy this beautiful landscape.
Trip to Portugal - Valongo Valleys
Another day of training! I have been on lockdown since March 16, 2020 and it has been a unique experience, as I am working from home remotely and I have more time to spend at the end of the day to go walk/run in the mountains of Valongo.
I'm going to show you this new trail that I did, which is a little complicated for those who don't like uphill.
The mountain begins to show the greenest color and the most colorful flowers. The spring season is magnificent for those who love nature, as we begin to see many more colors and hear and see more birds and other animals up the mountain. It is gratifying to stop in the middle of the mountain and "listen" to nature.
In the Serra de Valongo it is necessary to be very careful with the "fojos" holes in the ground that are old excavations to find gold in the mountain. Many of these holes are not signposted, so if you ever venture into these mountains don't forget these holes as they have enormous depth
On this walk I was accompanied by my parents old dog. The dog loves to walk up the hill and sniff every corner. On this little climb, the dog was already tired, so I had to turn around and go home again.
As you can see in this area of the mountain, there is a lot of trees that are eucalyptus, this exists more because a few years ago there was a big fire in this area and then they planted eucalyptus.
Here I reveal my admiration for the majestic eucalyptus. It is undoubtedly a beautiful, grand and elegant tree, with smooth and soft skin and a refreshing aroma. Who has never noticed the pastel colors of the eucalyptus trunk that peels off after a night of wind and rain?
Eucalyptol has bronchial-dilating properties, making breathing easier and also acting as a strong antiseptic for the airways. It is also antipyretic, combats cough, healing and vermifuge, and can be applied in the form of suppository. It is disinfectant, useful in combating various types of bacteria, it is also effective in the treatment of otitis, flu, bronchitis, expectorant, oropharyngeal inflammations, diabetes, stimulating the production of insulin, cystitis and even in external use in the form of diluted essential oil. in compresses, relieves muscle and rheumatic pain.

Half of Portugal's border is maritime, and the rest more closed than opened. Maritime border where many landed and from where we left so many. Travel Portugal - Porto
The city where I live is 11 km from the beautiful city of Porto. Since the lockdown, I’m not going to the city of Porto, to walk the streets, shop, work, etc… I miss it already, seeing the confusion, the people on the sidewalk, the tourists taking pictures and happy, the bars with music with people dancing. I miss Porto.
While I am sitting here on the sofa looking at the computer, I decided to see several pictures of the city that I like so much and I chose some to show you.
The Teatro Sá da Bandeira is the oldest city hall, the theater met its first life in 1867 as Teatro Circo, built in wood. Twelve years later it is reborn in stone but the building, as it is known today, was erected in 1877.
This is the final of Rua das Flores. There was a time when Rua das Flores was one of the most important streets in Porto, with a row of palatial houses for the city elite. Its a charming alley where you can find jewelers and goldsmiths engaged in their craft. Balconies with wrought iron balconies look out over the street.
Jardim de João Chagas is close to Torre dos Clérigos and is also known as Jardim da Cordoaria. The renovation of this space took place in 1866 and was designed by the German landscaper Emile David. With good shadows the garden has a small pond and a small park for children. Next to the churches of Carmo and Carmelitas there is a restaurant where you can stop for a snack. In the garden you will find the statues of Ramalho Ortigão and António Nobre, a set of sculptures.

The Torre dos Clérigos, in the heart of downtown Porto, is the tallest tower in Portugal and one of the ex-libris and greatest symbols of the city of Porto.You have the possibility to enter this tower and climb the 240 stairs. It's tiring, but you think it's well worth the effort!
At the top you have a breathtaking view over almost the entire city of Porto, as well as over the river Douro and which extends to Foz.

Portugal - Sintra 🕌 Palácio da Pena
Lately with my confinement that has been going on for 35 days I have been going to my photos from my trips. I miss the freedom and happiness I had in traveling.
Palácio da Pena is one of the most extravagant in the country. Erected at the top of the Serra de Sintra, at 500 meters of altitude, it presents a number of styles that, curiously, end up presenting a beautiful result.
The work was directed by the Baron of Eschwege, who was inspired by the Bavarian palaces, to create a unique building that combines "Wagnerian" influences from other castles in central Europe, with Moorish features and Gothic and Manueline motifs.
A true palace at the top of the Sintra mountain range. Set at the top of the mountain and the result of the creative genius of D.Fernando II, the Park and the Pena Palace are the maximum exponent, in Portugal, of the Romanticism of the century XIX, constituting the most important pole of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra World Heritage.
The views of the Palace, from the top of the Serra de Sintra, are unmissable and you can see why the royal family used the building as a home very often - especially during the reign of Carlos I of Portugal. In fact, Queen D. Amélia took this palace as her favorite residence.
Part of the base of the Palace is based on huge rocks and presents an architecture that mixes styles, such as neo-Gothic, neo-Manueline, neo-islamic and neo-renaissance, among others.

Portugal - Lisbon
Lisbon, I miss traveling to this city already. When our confinement is over and the COVID-19 virus pandemic is much more controlled, I will definitely go to Lisbon to feel the movement, the people, the tourists, the "pasteis de nata", the sun...
For those who don't know the Portuguese capital Lisbon, I will talk a little about the biggest city in Portugal. Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the hub of a multifaceted region that appeals to different tastes and senses.
In a city that has been receiving many different cultures coming from far and wide distances over time, today it still feels like a village breath in every historic neighborhood. Travel Portugal - Amarante
Amarante is a beautiful city located on the banks of the River Tâmega and about 60 km from Porto. With a mix of history, religion, nature, art and gastronomy, it is a destination worth visiting!

Travel Portugal - Guimarães
Guimarães is a city with a glorious historical past. It's history relates to the foundation of national identity and the Portuguese language in the twelfth century.
The city has preserved it's illustrious past as the hometown of Dom Afonso Henriques, first king of Portugal and born in 1110. Also in this same place, the king began the main offensive of reconquest against the Moors.

In Portugal, Easter traditions are evident all over the country. Travel Portugal - Santa Justa, Valongo - Porto
The city of Valongo is close to the city of Porto, about 11 km on the motorway. The city of Valongo has beside it the highest mountain in the district of Porto.
This village is located between Serra de Santa Justa and Serra de Pias and is bathed by the River Ferreira. It is one of the Villages of Portugal, with cobbled paths and old houses made of quartzite blocks.
To climb the mountain it takes about 1 hour and we must be aware that there are very aggressive climbs. Be especially careful not to venture out at times when the sun is strongest.
It is also important to be careful of the mines that can be found. These mines were made by the Romans to find gold. The Serra de Valongo was the largest site of gold exploration by the Romans.
In this mountain range you can also find several carnivorous and rare plants, however it is necessary to know the mountain well to discover them.
This Valongo mountain is very special for me, because since I was a kid I explored and also used it as my gym to run after arriving from work.

Trip to Morocco - Agadir 2018
Today Sunday April 5, 2020 more one day of quarantine (already going on 20 days) I decided to remember one of the summer trips that I miss. This trip went to Morocco for the city of Agadir in the summer of 2018.
My departure was from Sá Carneiro Airport, in the city of Porto - Portugal. I had to convert some money from Euro to Dirham right away so that when I get to Morocco I don't have any money conversion problems right away.
My stay was at the Iberostar Founty Beach resort, which is considered 4 stars. In my opinion its practically 5 stars, because the conditions were excellent. The hotel was very clean, the food was very good and there was a lot of variety. The bar and entertainment were very nice. The pools were also quite large giving space to swim without any problems.
In front of the hotel we had a beach with a space reserved for the people of the hotel. I preferred to go to the unreserved space and feel the Moroccan spirit on the beach.
In the city of Agadir, in addition to foreign tourism, a lot of the market also lives. I decided to visit the largest market in the city, Souk el Had, where there is a lot of sale of handicrafts, spices, food, clothes, shoes, etc. It is necessary to pay special attention when buying products in Morocco, they don't have a fixed price, so it is necessary to negotiate. As I love to negotiate, I loved shopping, even selling a Moroccan hat of mine! Amazing...
Agadir is located in the south of Morocco and is one of the most famous beach destinations in the country. The city of Agadir is the capital of the Souss-Massa-Draâ region and is the largest fishing port in Morocco.
Agadir is simple and modern and has contemporary architecture. Its houses and buildings are painted white, it has wide avenues, gardens and large green areas and also spectacular flora and fauna.
The Bay of Agadir stretches for 10 km, has warm and transparent waters and is surrounded by a lot of infrastructure.
I really enjoyed this week vacation destination!

Travel Portugal - Boa Nova viewpoint, Leça da Palmeira
The Chapel is located between the Lighthouse of ***Leça da Palmeira*** and ***Praia Azul*** and takes the place of an old Franciscan Monastery that used to exist here. The **Boa Nova Chapel** has always been closely linked to the population of Leça da Palmeira and fishermen, because the patron was celebrated here, with lively popular festivities.
Built on the rocks, the Chapel of Boa Nova, is to the north of ***Casa do Chá*** with the same name, designed by the architect ***Álvaro Siza Vieira***.
**Praia Azul or Praia da Conchinha**, as it is also called, is located next to the marginal avenue, which makes access easier and provides several types of support infrastructure.
The sea, which is almost always very rough, offers good conditions for the practice of sports such as surfing or bodyboarding, but requires bathers some care.

Travel Portugal - Angeiras, Lavra
Praia de Angeiras, also known as Praia Azul, has a pleasant beach all surrounded by a promenade that allows good access and that provides many of the beach support to its visitors.
The sea is characterized by being agitated, which gives it a unique beauty, but also extra care for bathers. It is a beach with north winds.
A little further north next to the bridge there is an archaeological site from Roman times.
Until the beginning of the XX century, there was a seasonal occupation in conjunction with Casas do Mar, where the large farming houses in the region developed maritime activities complementary to agriculture.
Today it is an important center for artisanal fishing, of species such as pout, sea bass or octopus. The sardines and shrimp from the Angeiras coast are considered one of the best in the country.
Initially, rowing and sailing vessels were also used, called "catraias" and "miranços", and later they were replaced by more modern steam vessels.

Trip to Portugal - Memória Beach, Matosinhos
***Praia da Memória*** is a Portuguese beach located in Perafita, north of the cities of Porto and Matosinhos. This beach in the municipality of Matosinhos, has a very important historical element in the history of the municipality, which is the Obelisk of Memory, which ***marks the beginning of the end of Absolutism in Portugal***.
HISTORY - Obelisk of "Memória"
The Obelisk of "Memória" marks the spot where, on July 8th 1832, King Pedro IV and the 7500 men of his liberal army disembarked, marking the end of the absolutist regime that had hitherto dominated Portugal. After landing, the liberation army advanced to the city of Porto which would be kept under siege for a year (the Siege of Porto). The first stone of this monument was laid on December 1st 1840 in remembrance of this event, under the auspice of Queen Mary II, daughter of Pedro IV. After several delays, the obelisk was finally completed in 1864 and classified as a national monument in 1880.
The granite obelisk includes references to the date of landing in two observable metal crowns at the top. Four limestone panels at its base record references to the initiative of building the monument, some of the commanders of the **"Libertador Army"** and the famous proclamation that D. Pedro IV made to the soldiers before the disembarkation.

Travel Portugal - Costa Vicentina, Alentejo
The **Costa Vicentina**, the coastal strip between Odeceixe and Burgau is part of the Alentejo coast, **here the preserved nature has a strong and wild character**, which translates into landscapes of breathtaking grandeur.
This area is part of the Natural Park which starts further north in the southwest of the Alentejo and ***which is the largest extension of the Portuguese coast subject to protection***.
The beaches follow one another, with extensive sands as far as the eye can see, or smaller ones framed by grandiose cliffs of shale and limestone. The rough sea produces a natural symphony, which serves as a soundtrack to this place.
The entire Alentejo coast is known mainly as a summer destination, sought after for its fabulous beaches and outdoor activities. It is coveted by surf lovers, naturists, bird watchers, fishermen, riders, divers and all those who seek a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Temperatures along the Alentejo coast are normally mild during almost the whole year. The north is colder than the south. However, we can say that, in general, the temperature varies between 9°C and 27°C.

Travel Portugal - Senhor da Pedra Beach, Gaia
The ***Chapel of Senhor da Pedra***, of hexagonal plant, lift on rocks, stands out in the middle of the huge sand and gives the name to this beach, located at the northern end of Miramar Beach.
The small temple of Senhor da Pedra is built on a rocky outcrop about 280 million years old on Miramar beach. In winter it is a solitary place and, with the tides alive, it becomes a litter hit by the foam of the waves.
**It appears in photographs around the world, mainly because of its location.** It stands out for being leaning against the rocks almost seeming to be part of them and because it is reportedly the only church with its back to the sea. Therefore, it is said that it ***"belongs to both land and sea"***.
On its walls, two panels are read:
"The place where this chapel of the lord of the stone rises is certainly the oldest place of worship in the parish before celebrating Christ in it would be a pagan altar."
"The origin of the population group of Gulpilhares goes back to greater antiquity, as is well demonstrated by the remarkable archaeological remains that have been found in this region".
It's assumed that, before being a Christian temple, it was a place of pagan worship. Nowadays, people are still frequently seen performing unorthodox rituals behind the church.
The popular cult of Senhor da Pedra is manifested through the Santíssima Trindade Sunday and is considered one of the largest and most charismatic in the city. ***However, many people visit the place throughout the year***.

Travel Portugal - Barragem da Queimadela, Fafe
The **Barragem da Queimadela** is in Fafe and is a great destination for a weekend vacation or even a good summer vacation.
Portugal is a country full of charms to discover. The Barragem da Queimadela in Fafe is one of them. Multiple leisure areas, a river beach and many trails to go.
In this dam, there is a reservoir with an area of 11 hectares. In the region, it is assumed to have a wide offer in the area of leisure. Here you will find a river beach, a picnic park and ***it is possible to practice some water sports, as long as they aren't polluting***.
For those who want to visit the dam and stay there for a few days, there is a campsite and caravan park in the vicinity of the reservoir, ***safe and very quiet to spend a restful holiday***.

Travel Portugal - Almourol Castle
In the middle of the Tejo river, the enigmatic **Almourol Castel** is one of the most emblematic monuments of the christian reconquest.
Situated on an islet in the middle of the Tejo river, the Almourol castel is one of the most emblematic monuments that can be found in *Portugal*, due to its meaning and the surrounding landscape.
Its history recalls the reconquest of the territory during the middle ages. When the Christians arrived here, the castle already existed under the name of **"Almorolan"**, having then been included in the lands handed over to the **Templar guard**, under the orders of **Gualdim Pais**.
Together with the castles of Tomar, Zêzere and Cardiga formed the defensive line of the Tejo River.
After the Order of the Templars was extinguished and the need to defend the territory ended, it ended up falling into oblivion, being recovered by the romantic spirit that guided its restoration and gave it the aspect we see today.

Travel Portugal - Ponte de Lima
Ponte de Lima is a beautiful village, county seat, bathed by the Lima River, located in the green Minho, in the northern region of the country, with a predominantly agricultural feature.
The Ponte de Lima region has been inhabited since the early days of prehistory, with several megalithic monuments throughout the county, having passed through several peoples over the centuries.
Its quiet streets of picturesque houses, typically Minho, breathe history, integrating a large number of manors and palatial houses, considered the capital of Housing Tourism in the country, also attesting to the economic importance of other times, much derived from the production of famous green wine.
The architectural and cultural heritage of the village is very rich, namely from the Medieval and Renaissance period.

Travel Portugal - Óbidos
The medieval village of **Óbidos** is one of the most picturesque and ***best preserved in Portugal***!
Sufficiently close to the capital of **Portugal - Lisbon** and situated on a high point, close to the Atlantic coast, Óbidos had a strategic importance in the territory.
Already occupied by the Romans before reaching the Iberian Peninsula, the village became more prosperous from the moment it was chosen by the royal family.
Within walls, we find a well-kept **castle and a labyrinth of streets and white houses** that delight those who stroll there. Among Manueline porches, flowered windows and small squares, there are several reasons to visit, good examples of the religious and civil architecture of the golden times of the village.
***Any time is a good time to visit Óbidos***. Due to the love stories that are told there and the medieval environment, it is an inspiring suggestion for a romantic weekend or just a quiet one. And if you include an overnight stay in the castle, then the setting will be perfect.

Travel Portugal - Torres Novas
Torres Novas is a beautiful Portuguese city in the District of Santarém, county seat, located right in the Center of the Country, is crossed by the pleasant River Almonda.
The whole surrounding region is of great natural beauty, oscillating between agricultural lands with a growing industrialization that the good means of communication have allowed in the last decades, however there are many small and rural villages nearby.
With such a rich history, this city presents a vast and interesting Heritage, not only in its historic center, but in all its surroundings, highlighting its towering Castle, the Churches of São Salvador, of origins of the XIII.
The origins of Torres Novas are very remote, with numerous archaeological finds witnessing the existence of lithic industries implanted in the region in such ancient times.

Travel Portugal - Constancy Tropical Butterfly
Located in the Environmental Park of Santa Margarida, the Butterfly House opened to the public in 2013.
It is a space created to make the world of butterflies known, contributing to the knowledge of the biology and ecology of these insects, thus serving as a model to understand the importance of conserving the diversity of living beings.
Inside the Butterfly Garden the weather is always hot and humid. In this way it is possible to keep alive, throughout the year, tropical butterflies that flutter among the vegetation.
Scientists, students and school teachers, families with or without children, tourists, all have a special universe, truly exotic, in the Butterfly Garden, where they can observe several species of butterflies, including some of considerable dimensions, all of unspeakable beauty.
Entering the Butterfly Garden is to have the feeling that, suddenly, the tropics came to visit the Environmental Park to bring a world of wonder before our eyes.

Travel Portugal - Pena Palace
The fantastic Pena Palace is one of the greatest examples of the romantic revival of the century XIX in Portugal.
The views of the Palace, from the top of the Serra de Sintra, are unmissable and you can see why the royal family used the building as a home very often especially during the reign of Carlos I of Portugal.
The consort king adopted Portuguese architectural and decorative forms for the palace, in the revivalist style (neo-gothic, neo-manueline, neo-islamic, neo-renaissance) and in the surroundings he decided to make a magnificent English park, with the most varied tree species exotic.
The Pena Palace is a work of art, which is why it has many unique patterns not found in any palace!
