The earliest surviving photographic portrait of a human was taken this month in 1839. A self portrait by Robert Cornelius. The world’s first selfie. Believe it or not... So Which one was the first photo portrait? Neither. But according to Dr. McArdle, Associate Professor in the Image, the wonderfully named French Hippolyte Bayard took these self portraits before March 1839. They're not as good as the other pictures, but they survived and ARE photographic portraits of a human. (Second photo) https://onthisdateinphotography.com/2019/03/17/march-17-indignation/ Dating these photos exactly is tricky, they all happened very close to each other and the photographers didn't always keep exact records. But ALL these photos are firsts in their own right. 1st photo portrait of a woman 1st photo self portrait in USA 1st photo self portrait ever. Third picture; trying to apply some filters to Bayard's photo, its impossible to find it in good resolution... so thats all folks! see ya.
