Unseen for over 2000 years, archaeologists uncover a mosaic in Ancient City of Zeugma, Turkey. Seleucia or Zeugma was a city founded by Seleucus I Nicator the Greek general of Alexander the Great in 300 B.C. It was named Zeugma (= bridge in ancient Greek) when it was conquered by Romans in 64 B.C. On the mosaic you can read - in Greek - the names of the 9 Muses from ancient Greek mythology. These names are also commonly used nowadays as first names. Τhe woman in the middle is Calliope (KΑΛΛΙΟΠΗ) the Chief of all Muses,the patron of Epic Poetry. #Architecture
