The Portuguese were the first europeans to reach Japan, in 1543. Some versions say it was in 1541 or 1542. Regardless of the year, we immediatly started trade routes. It was also the Portuguese who founded the harbor of Nagasaki, in 1571, and introduced fire arms to the Japanese.
