Worldwide WEBB and the Interoperable Future of the Metaverse

In the past year, we've seen metaverse projects step into the spotlight. Early blue chip projects include The Sandbox and Decentraland, which feel almost like blockchain versions of open worlds like Minecraft or Roblox. We've seen a rush of money and crypto go into "land wars" as people speculate about future utility and what they can build in the space moving forward. There is another metaverse project that has flown under the radar, but has recently been gaining some momentum for their innovative and mysterious approach. It's called Worldwide WEBB and it is slowly building out a sprawling world and mythology as users start to flock to it.

The Worldwide WEBB experience is so far based around an in-browser game that is absolutely free for anyone to play. With a heavily 80's and retro aesthetic, Worldwide WEBB weaves together various sci-fi tropes and easter eggs to send players on missions to explore the streets of locations like Tokyo and Kyoto Gardens. Within the world there is an Arcade where you can play games to earn in game rewards and various other buildings to check out.

Recently Worldwide WEBB put on a dance competition, where users had to move their characters into different hot zones on the dance floor to try and achieve the top score. Just the other day, they announced that 100 winners of this dance competition were airdropped discoball NFTs. These were given to users who played for free, and the floor price is already approaching 4 ETH at the time I'm writing this. This is an absolute fairy tale of a play-to-earn, or in this case "dance to earn" model. The Worldwide WEBB quests are completely free for anyone with a wallet to sign up for. The world is intriguing to explore, and you might just end up scoring free NFTs that have real value in a project that continues to be built out.

In addition to the generous freebies, Worldwide WEBB also offers metaverse apartments of small, medium and large size that will be a part of the metaverse moving forward. Apartments and land in the project already have a floor of nearly 2 ETH, with more utility and in-game functionality expected to be rolled out in the coming months.

A key feature of Worldwide WEBB so far is its approach to interoperability. They already support users in setting any avatar or PFP held in their wallets as their in-game characters. When you wander the streets of Worldwide WEBB you encounter punks, apes and other notable PFPs. They appear to be taking this interoperability to the next level as they have just announced a platform fighting game that will be dropping soon, where you will be able to compete as your PFP avatar. A tournament is forthcoming to determine which NFT community reigns supreme. Rare NFTs are expected to be passed out as prizes to the winners.

With more land and zones rolling out soon, the ability to port your PFPs into the game and new experiences being built on top of the metaverse, Worldwide WEBB is a project worth checking out. Afterall, there is virtually no barrier to entry, and you might walk away with being airdropped a rare and useful item to use in the world moving forward.
