We thought we have gone ahead
One step forward, two steps back
One minute, we are making progress
The next, we are worse off than we started
Nothing seems to be working
Even prayers offered have been frustrated
Dance of victory goes by so fleeting
Replaced with tears and gnashing of teeth
How long do we have to be deprived
Freedom fighters are being silenced
Every peaceful protester is now a threat
Families being thrown into confusion
Safety is never a guarantee anymore
Everyone looking over their shoulders
Trying to avoid the next gunshot
From the very people who swore to protect
All because they couldn't bear being challenged
I thought they were accountable to us?
Nothing is certain in this country anymore
Where do we go from here?
