Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV)

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Everything Jesus told us to do is good works. All He did while He was living were good works just as we have read in the Bible that everywhere Jesus went, He was doing good.

Acts 10:38 (NIV)

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

We are enjoined to carry out and continue doing these good works because of our faith in Him. How do we claim to love Jesus and won't follow His ways? How do you explain a footballer who has been bought by a club and he donned their jersey. He was on the pitch and he said he won't score? Does that make much sense? No.

We cannot claim to love God and we won't have love for others around us. The love we have for God will and must make us want to do good works. Doing good works make God happy in addition to our faith, and we cannot say we love God if we won't make Him happy.

Jesus told His disciples that He was in Prison, no one came to visit Him. He was hungry, no one gave Him food and He was thirsty, no one gave Him water. The disciples asked when and where they saw Him in all these and they didn't respond. He told them if they fail to do it for those they can see, they haven't done it for Him either. He spoke in parables to them.

Matthew 25:43-45 (NIV)

I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

For those who are contented with just believing in Jesus without doing good works, hear what the Bible says:

Matthew 7:26-27 (NIV)

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Our faith is perfected by our good works. To have that perfect faith, you need to do good works, meaning by good works, the faith you have in Jesus is made perfect. We cannot believe in Jesus without doing the work that is required of us as believers - preaching the Word and being a blessing to lives.

James 2:22 (NIV)

You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

James 2:26 (NIV)

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

As we can all see and read, good work is necessary. It must accompany faith as faith is also made perfect by good works.

Philippians 2:12 (NIV)

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
