#The first black president

Nelson Mandela was democratically elected South Africa's first black president in 1994. He successfully served as the President till 1999. He retired voluntarily in 1999.

#Nobel Peace Prize

Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his contribution to peace talks with the South African government. In the same year, President FW Clarke was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Mandela has also received more than 250 awards. One of them is the 1990 Bharat Ratna award given by the Government of India.
