Breaking: Chinese GDP overtakes USA Little Info China has overtaken USA in GDP on ****PPP**** terms. But USA's GDP is ahead in ***nominal*** terms. **GDP by Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)**
*Largest economies in the world by GDP (PPP) in 2025 according to International Monetary Fund estimates* **Nominal GDP**
*Largest economies in the world by GDP (nominal) in 2025 according to International Monetary Fund estimates* **Above figures taken from Wikipedia** *Source:* GDP (PPP) ; GDP (nominal) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) What does that mean? Does that mean China is now richer?
***When we measure GDP by PPP it mean numbers are adjusted for inflation and the difference in the cost of living.*** As you may be aware that something that cost $10 in Philippines would cost $40-$50 in USA because of the difference in the cost of living. Therefore, in order to make a real world comparison GDP numbers are weighted and adjusted to take that calculation into account. Thus, when we say GDP in nominal terms is still more than that of China, we mean that USA still has more money than China. But when we say that GDP in PPP terms has overtaken USA, we mean that the money that China has (which is still less than that of USA) can buy more stuff (product & services) in their country. **Hope that simplifies things,** ***if not*** ****then comment below and I will try to answer**** So what does it mean for the world **Is the world order changing...!?** Well... its complicated. **This is by no means Small News** Its is an important news indicating that China is winning. *But that doesn't mean its over for USA* USA is still a powerhouse Many of the biggest Tech companies are still in USA, from Apple to Google to Amazon. **But China is catching up** With companies like BYD China is innovating like how USA use to back in the day. **Long ago China was seen as a cheap manufacturing hub** Before the big brands like Xiaomi & OPPO, Chinese phones were considered inferior toys. (This was the time of iPhone 1) When you brought a Chinese phone (or any Chinese product for that matter) it was considered that you are buying it for a few months and expect it to go bad soon. But it was so cheap that you considered it a use-and-throw gizmo. ***How tables have turned*** Now Chinese companies are becoming leaders in their space. Is this really going to make a world of changes Well, some of it will. China has been known for committing some terrible things, like oppression of Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and soooo many more etc, etc, & etc(s)... **USA has also committed some terrible things as well...** Like concentration camps for Japanese origin people during WW2 to overthrowing democratically elected leaders to establish dictators in Latin America. Each side has done bad things *And I refuse to take a side* **But is is some what exciting to see history unfold in front of us** All I hope is that people of the world can live in peace. Because, all these politics and wars and riches are for the elites. *Regular folks just want to live their lives in peace with a roof over their heads and food in their belly and safety for their children.*
