Whatever happened to 'Simple Ledger Protocol'? Intro Some of you may remember that there was something called SmartBCH about a year or so ago that took the BitcoinCash community by storm. There was so much development going around with read.cash being the primary bulletin board for them. There were DEXs, NFT projects, community projects and so much more (I too had a project that failed miserably), but it has all but sizzled out. But before SmartBCH sidechain was a thing there was something else that BitcoinCash community used for development of community driven projects. The **Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP)** https://simpleledger.cash/ The thing about Simple Ledger Protocol was that it wasn't another EVM clone of Ethereum. While there is no shame in being an EVM based chain and some of the best smart contract development is happening on EVM chains. You have to admit there is a novelty in not being another EVM and SLP was one of them. SLP tried to solve the problem that exists even today, they tried to make the complicated process a little simple. *And I think it was an amazing project which I dearly miss* FlexUSD token ***I want to explain what's great about SLP tokens by the example of flexUSD*** There was a stablecoin called flexUSD which was pegged to USD (obviously). -- **DON'T USE IT, IT'S NOW DEFAUNCT --** But in its prime it was a awesome token that was easily transferable and easy to use. On Simple Ledger Protocol the flexUSD can be transferred without using any Web3 wallet like Metamask. You just simply needed a supported wallet like Bitcoin.com wallet and will see your tokens separately as if they were their own coins. That was quite handy: You didn't need to install any extension You didn't need to add a new network You didn't need to bridge any tokens You didn't need a new buy a new token ***If you had BitcoinCash it just simply worked out of the box*** You could simply exchange or buy flexUSD directly on a BitcoinCash wallet. **Another great thing was it automatically accrued interest for simply holding flexUSD** If you held flexUSD SLP tokens then you would start to see interest getting credited directly into the wallet on daily basis. Without the need to stake it or provide liquidity to some DEX or other complicated and cumbersome process. This all happened on BitcoinCash itself and best described on the official website as: **You can think of SLP as a ‘transaction within a transaction’. SLP transactions live within a special output known as OP_RETURN, which is a part of a standard Bitcoin Cash transaction. If Alice wants to send Bob some tokens, she sends a minimal (dust) amount of BCH, and the transaction also contains the data to transfer the tokens. You may be interested in reading the protocol specification, which is comprehendable to the average Bitcoin-minded reader.** Conclusion Simply put SLP was way ahead of its time with great piece of technology that got lost somewhere in the long list dead Crypto projects.
