Do you know what is "sunk cost" fallacy? When we keep doing an action because of our previous decisions (time, money, resources, you name it) rather than a rational decision of what will maximize our utility at this present time. So what to do? I suggest that every time you decide to do something try to be aware of this fallacy and try not to insist on past decisions just because you put money, time into it.
