Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) has officially announced the purchase of 100 per cent of the shares in the AFL club Newcastle United. The amount of the deal has not been disclosed but is rumoured to be €350m. The PIF's assets are valued at 430 billion euros - that is, for example, 14 times the assets of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour and three times the assets of the owners of the other 19 AFL clubs combined. What can I say, judging by the assets of the new owners, Newcastle should become the richest club in the world. This fund wanted to buy the club a year ago, but the deal was blocked because of some machinations, but it seems to have been settled. So more player prices will go up. Newcastle are currently in 19th place with three points under their belt. It's getting more and more interesting in England.
