That Was Awkward

There are times in our lives that it seems that a greater power or fate is just testing our social skills. Or there are times that our characters are put to test. There are also times that brought to us by our own embarrassing selves.

These awkward moments test everything we believe we have, like pride and a respectable sense of self. But there will just be times that it seems really out of our control and we just grasp just about anything to save what remains of our face.

Here are some awkward situations that we may be put in and some work arounds or things to do when you get entangled with them.

Scenario 1

You are running late to work and literally powerwalking through the streets trying to catch a ride. And then you spotted a jeepney with people in it stopped at corner. You hurriedly approached it and then you climbed inside it. As you sat down comfortably on the bench, you feel the weight of the stares of the people inside the vehicle. You then looked back and reached out your hand as you are trying to give your fare to the driver. And then the old lady seated next to you says, "You won't be going anywhere ... this is a private jeep."

Can you imagine the scene? What an awkward situation right? How would you react to that?

Action

Well, normally, you would just slowly get out of the vehicle and walk away and don't look back even though you know that they are all staring and laughing at you.

Why do that if you could make that moment yours and get out of the situation with such pizzazz.

First choice is to introduce yourself to everybody, ask where they were going and just hitchhike if they are going the same way you are.

Another thing is to act like you didn't hear what the old lady said and act like you just received a phone call and you need to go back where you came from. You can also use the premise that you have forgotten something and needed to go back.

Well, if you are brave enough, try saying, in a low and deep voice, "it's a hold up."

Scenario 2

You are at the bar, or just anywhere and someone approached you and asked how you are and act as if you're acquainted in some way. Their face may be familiar but you totally forgot what their name was.

Action

That may be awkward for some but for me who's got a memory of a pangasius, this is a normal scene. So how would you react to this situation?

You can take this route if you dare, and if it works you'll laugh about it later. You can act surprised and pretend that you really don't know them because of your amnesia. Ask them if they know you, and if they say they do and called out your name, you say that you were in an accident and could not remember much. Look at the horror on their face when their smile turn to guilt because they didn't know you were in an accident.

You can act like a celebrity and grab a pen or something and ask if they want an autograph or a selfie. Ask for their name for dedication purposes.

Act like you know them and let them buy you the next drink cause "it has been a while".

Scenario 3

You finally went out with someone that your friends set you up with. You went in with your hopes up and from the get go you had a bad feeling. And then as it turns out your gut knows what's up and it's really a bad date. How do you get out of it?

Action

That's pretty basic actually. You can do the oldest trick in the book and pretend that you are not feeling well and really need to go home. Frequenting trips to the bathroom will help you achieve this effect. And also don't forget a bit of squirmy face.

Another one is to sneak out a text to a friend letting them know to call you. As you answer the call, pretend that it's really important, workwise or otherwise. Appear to be apologetic and say things like "I really am enjoying the date... but I really have to attend to this. "

If you want to endure the rest of the date. Just steer the conversations to what you like and always change the subject. You'll see that time goes by very quickly then.

You can also cut the date early by saying that you have a curfew. Be it imposed in the house, your community or by your mayor. Just say that you have to go home at a certain time and that's the end of it.

Scenario 4

You have sent an embarrassing or message to the wrong recipient. Now let's not focus on wjat type of message, photo or video is that, forget about the content and just a wrong message in general.

Action

Play it off cooly and just say that you were just doing a social experiment among your peers and wanting to see how people react to such content. People may doubt you at first but just let them. Be brief about the purpose and the "experiment" over explaining things may make you more suspicious.

Tell them that you have been hacked or something. If the recipient isn't that tech savvy of a person, tendency is they will believe you and delete the message themselves.

"It's a prank!!!" That never goes old. Just tell them that they've been had and try to laugh it off as casually as possible.

Epilogue

But of course, there is one way to exit any awkward situations with your pride and integrity in tact. Just come right out and acknowledge the situation earnestly and be honest and say things truthfully. Be empathetic and just be polite, that's the secret for a healthy social relations.
